We had the same thing happen to us back in June 2007. We were crushed at first, but then started calling around to USCIS. I called three times to see if we'd get different responses. We did. The best response we got was this:

"There have been several packages returned to folks in error. Just re-send the check and a copy of your original I-485 AOS package back to Chicago with a cover letter that states what happened. Indicate there was a mistake made on USCIS part, but that you're hoping it will be corrected." We also had errors on the Receipt Notice (ex. incorrect Applicant Name...showed my name vs. my husband's...and invalid Receipt Number and Case Number was missing). We received the AOS Receipt Notice two weeks later with everything corrected and two days later---the letter inviting to Fingerprinting appointment! Since then all is going well. AOS interview is scheduled for 9/20/07. Wish us luck!

Jeez. I didn't do too much calling around, just coming here and talking about it :P lol So it seems like we are back on the right track now hopefully. I was thinking that it wouldn't take long for things to start happening again once we sent it back. It would be nice if they would feel so guilty about it that they didn't make us come for an interview, but that's not gonna happen, lol. Anyway, glad that you got your case straightened out as well, and good luck on the 20th!

Just wanted to let you guys know that I just mailed back the application - I put a sticky note on the new cover letter that said "ATTN: CRU supervisor - case improperly rejected due to fees. See cover letter." Then in the cover letter I told them about what happened, and that I am sending everything back exactly how they sent it to me. Think that'll work?

I was gonna put in there "If my calendar is correct, July 28th came BEFORE July 30th this year," but Ede didn't think we should include that :P lol

I hope you made copies of everything before sending it back... Good luck!
