Feeling sick to the stomache...panic is setting in

First off, I'd like to just ask: Is there anyone here who already had their medical who answered "yes" to the drug usage question asked by the doctor? I didn't know what to check on the box where it asked about drug usage, so I left the spot blank, then when it was time to see the doctor, I explained to him I had experimented with marijuana a few times as a kid (10 years ago or so), so he told me to check "no" on that box.

The only reason I'm worrying so much now is Ron/Sharon's situation really hit home, and now I just read another post from a Philipina girl who had tried some kind of drug to get her through a bad time in her life 4 years ago, and received a denial.

I'm just wondering if even though he told me to check the "no" box for drug usage whether he would have made a side note anywhere about it that is going to end up causing me problems. The last thing I need to do right now is stress out about it, but it is pretty hard not to.

Any advice or feedback would be very helpful!

As a side note, the doc did say on his way out "everything looks good, and best wishes to you at the interview", and when I came back a few hours later for the results, I asked the receptionist who had been in the room with us while the doc did the tests and asked the questions if all the results were good, and she said yes, and appeared totally sincere. That could mean nothing or everything, I guess.

My advice is to never EVER admit drug usage for any reason. However, since he told you to check "no", I suspect that is the end of your issues. He would've been a real jerk and said check "yes" if he meant to cause you any harm.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

Misty, to calm your nerves, call up the doctor and ask if you can pay for a copy of the medical. They'll seal it but since it's a second copy you can rip it open. I paid for a 2nd copy primarily so I could see the results. If you were a minor (under 18) when you admitted use, I don't believe they can use that against you but maybe someone else knows for sure.

Most of the panel physicians keep records on file so they can provide copies upon request (and a fee) but not all. Call up the doctor today. It's worth the extra money I think to give you piece of mind.

I really wouldn't worry about this. Your situation is also different then what happened to Ron and Sharon. A lot of people have smoked a joint once or twice in their life time. It has nothing to do with your adulthood. They should change the question to really read CURRENT drug use. Smoking some weed 10 years ago has no standing, medically or otherwise, on your condition as of now. I'm pretty sure they just want to know if you are taking some type of drug now.

You are almost TOO honest love! Honesty is always best but in some situations it isn't necessary. It is not like you were charged with drug possession in the past, been admitted to AA or a rehabilitation centre for an addiction. I believe THAT is the kinda stuff they want to know about.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Plus, even if someone was charged as a minor and served time in juvey, their records are sealed when they turn 18.

Honesty is ALWAYS the best policy. Always, specially when dealing with government. Never lie, just don't volunteer extra information my dear ;)

But seems you're fine so don't worry about it.

p.s. people are not "admitted" to AA, they sign up ;)

Well, I answered 'Yes' to the drug question because I thought they would not really belive that a 32 year old guy had never tried marijuana before. The Dr's follow-up question is to ask when the last time you tried drugs was. I honestly had no idea, as it had been a few years. I said I last smoked in 2003.

At the interview the Consular Officer did approve my K1 but said that I was "right on the line" of being inadmissable.....I would have been inadmissable if I had admitted that I'd used drugs within the last 3 years.

These posts make me so glad that I can honestly say no to each of those questions, since I've never tried anything at all! Crazy... if I had, I'd be struggling with that too, and afraid about a denial.

yes I realise they are not admitted. I was thinking ahead of myself while writing. But I said that just to address my point. I don't know if you were re-iterating what I said about honesty or implying that what I said wasn't good advice. I'm sorry but I'm not going to tell the doctor at 20-something or 30-something years old that I drank a bottle of vodka when I was 16. What does that even mean? That is why I think that question should be changed for clarification reasons. It should be questioning whether or not you have drug/alcohol abuse problems currently. If you have a prescription for percocet your doctor is probably going to relay that to USCIS but otherwise, I see the question as quite silly as it seems they are trying to make you admit to something that doesn't exist.

Honesty is the best policy!

AMEN brother - advising someone to lie in their application and all related issues is against VJ TOS.

Yes, we get your point. Bolding it is unnecessary and if you are implying that I'm advising someone to lie on their application then please report me to VJ.

Im 34 and never tried drugs (besides coffee and alcohol, lol) and even resided in the green province of BC for almost 10 yrs!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
