Didn't get my letter in time, missed my interview date!

I don't come on here very often, but looking for any info.

My case (I-130 app) was approved on March 30th. I finally called the NVC around June 15th, to see if there was any news on an interview date for me, and the woman I spoke to told me no, not yet. Her words were: " The interviews in Montreal, are scheduled for the last 2 weeks of every month, and you didn't make June's interviews, so maybe call back in July to see if I made July's interviews. " I then asked her if I would be contacted when I have an interview date, or do I just have to keep calling? (wondering if thats how I found out when my interview is, cuz it takes me forever to get through to someone at the NVC) she said " You and your husband will BOTH receive a letter in the mail with details on your interview date (one sent to my address in Canada, and one to him in the US)".... I also asked her, if she had any idea of the time on how far ahead they would notify me of my interview, she said at least 2 months. Which was fine, and I hung up.

I then called the NVC back around the 23th of July (I think), and a recording told me that my case had been forwarded to MOntreal on July 18th, and to wait to hear from them regarding an interview date. Fine, no problem. I'm thinking I will just wait for a letter to arrive with my interview details.

Now, my husband is in the US military, and deployed right now. He left his roommate in charge, to contact me, if any mail arrived regrding my visa application. His roommate contacted me at the end of July, to tell me there was some mail there for my husband, regarding the visa. He said he would put in the mail and send it to me. (i'm not worrying about what was in the letter, cuz the woman told me I would also receive a letter if it was my interview date). Long story short, he was delayed in sending it to me, due to the military, sending him to school for 2 weeks. I just received this letter on friday, Aug 31st, without my postal code on it.. (UGH, which delayed it again) Anyway, the letter was dated July 17th, and tells me, my interview was scheduled for Aug 9th, in Montreal, at 8:30am.. !!!!!!!

They never sent me a letter to my address, and I'm confused that my date was Aug 9th, which is not in the last 2 weeks of the month. I have sent off an email asking whether or not I can be scheduled for another interview.

Anyone know what my chances might be of being scheduled for another interview? Sorry for the long post, but we've been married 3.5 years now, and applied over 18 months ago for this visa, so I'm a little devastated right now!

Contact the NVC at once by phone and ask to speak to a supervisor. Send in a letter explaining the problem. You might even consider sending a registered letter. An e-mail doesn't express the correct level of concern for the situation. The interviews can be on any day of the month except when the consulate is closed, the scheduling of interviews for the timeslots takes place during the second week of the month. Unfortunately you have discovered this the hard way. Do not give up, just be persistent. The fact that DH is in the armed forces will go a long way. I don't think this will be a huge problem but I think your story has given all of us MTLers reason to pause. *gulping peptobismol and frantically typing an e-mail to the NVC checking on interview dates*

Forgive me for trying to make light of a disappointing and disturbing situation but your husband's friend sounds like a very bad man, a very, very bad man. *wagging index finger back and forth*

Call the embassy! Problems associated with your hubby being deployed holds a LOT of water. You shouldn't have any problems getting a new interview.

Ugh, that really sucks. Contact both the NVC and Montreal. Explain that your husband is deployed and that his stuff didn't get to you in time because of... well blame mail forwarding or something on the U.S. side. ;) But definitely call both NVC and Montreal and tell them you never got anything and get them to double-check your address and postal code.

Do all of the above, but do note that MTL is really b!tchy about folks missing their interviews - or rescheduling. Our neiks here had to reschedule for the little detail that she was well... giving birth... and she had to wait for another 5 months or so. Good luck and hope things speed up for you.

Plus, Montreal isn't answering phone calls last I checked.. so, that'll be a bit of a hurdle. I think NVC is your best bet.

You are absolutely correct. Montreal was not the best place to phone even when they were answering the phone. BTW, here's the e-mail for the consulate, just in case you don't have it, Montreal-IV-DV@state.gov and the one for the NVC, NVCinquiry@state.gov. Just be tenacious and don't ever leave such important matters to others again. As mom likes to say, "it isn't their stomach ache."

Good luck and please keep us apprised of the situation.

Thanks for everyones replies and advice. I just got off the phone with someone at the NVC. Apparently, they have my home mailing address, marked as BAD, meaning, no good. She confirmed my address, and its exactly right!!!! It was tagged as a bad address on March 29th, but can't tell me why. So, thats why I never received a copy of the letter sent to my husband with my interview date, they don't send anything out to an address marked as BAD! I told her that through out this process, I haven't moved, and I received everthing else they sent me. She then told me there is nothing they can do now, as my case is now at Montreal, and told me to call them, and email them. I tried calling, it was busy for the first 30 mins, now the office is closed. I hope maybe I will get a reply from the email I sent on Aug 31st. UGH!

Ensure u include ur case # on the SUBJECT line on the email. Hope u get it sorted out soon.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

this seems like the perfect situation to involve your hubby's senator. Call his/her local office, not the office in DC, explain what happened stressing the fact that your hubby is currently deployed. I can't see any reason to wait for Montreal's response before you contact the senator. The person that answers the phone may try to blow you off when they see that you're calling from Canada, but just ask to talk to the LA that deals with immigration issues.

The NVC pulled the same exact thing with our case. I was told that we did not get an interview date (by a very rude operator, might I add). I called back the very next day because I had an uneasy feeling and was informed that we did get an interview date and it was 19 days away. My husband never did get his interview letter, I had to FedEx mine to him to take to the interview. Hopefully when you explain the situation they will give you another interview in the very near future. Best of luck.

I finally got through to Montreal on the phone, and all I got was a recording, saying "due to staffing issues, you are no longer able to speak to a live operator, regarding your case!!!". I have sent another email off, still no response from my first one last week, and I think I will fax a letter off tonight.
