A member(with previous problems) is completely insulting to a long standing very well informed member & that thread gets shut down, for some supposed TOS violation - but it was never explained.

You've just explained exactly why it was closed in your quote, Dev, you worked it out; so will others. It's self explanatory and quite obvious to anyone who reads that thread.

As a rule admin/mods tend to not explain the intricacies of a thread closure.

If we need to police better incorrectly posted threads (location) then that is a good comment to know. I will spread the word. Also while some posts may appear as spam to some others may not see it that way. I often get a reported thread that seems like it might be bad just to find 50 other members that have posted there and had no problem with it. Fine line to walk and generally I try to do what I think the community as a whole finds to be appropriate when it comes to certain types of threads.

I have moved about 20 or so topics from the last ten days in the progress report forum. They should now be in the right forums. Tracy, we do make changes based on suggestions but in general we do not want to make rash decisions to change things based on limited feedback. We prefer to hear all sides. Both new and old members alike have valid points of view. The internet evolves and so does the site from month to month and through the years. The 'progress report' forum never existed until members started to enjoy the social elements of creating such threads. When there were tons of similar threads I agreed with the community to create the new forum. I want to do the best I can for the site and all members but nothing will ever be perfect. As for combining the threads that are in that forum I am not sure on what to do. Imposing and/or forcing people to change the threads is not the right solution. Hard call.

As for the timelines. I am very open to making changes that make sense. Just let me know. A thread last month resulted in me making several changes to the timeline system. There can be improvements still so I would appreciate any feedback that contains practical improvements and ways to simplify the presentation.

What about using the "received" date as the starting point in the timelines database rather than sent date? Did you come to a conclusion with that yet? Some NOA1 were 5 days while others were well over 30 days....

I can't speak for why anyone else 'feels' that, but I had noticed he'd not posted in a while. Looking at his profile, it appears that his last post was August 14th. If that officially makes him 'MIA' or not isn't my call to make.

Apparently he got 'hounded off' this board. Or maybe that's just a rumor.

I don't really care either way - just pointing out the obvious.

But you should care, since you're complaining about a lack of "clean-up" in regard to posts in certain forums. I would guess that it is directly linked to two things...

1) Yodrak is not here at the moment - ie: only two moderators

2) The moderators currently active are probably not too enthused about moving topics, since it will just result in another post in this or another forum complaining about them and their constant moving/merging of topics. Hell, I would have bailed long ago if I had to deal with the ####### that gets thrown at the mods here. I guess Mags and Lal have thicker skin than I do.

I suggest that no one speculate or check up on other members making judgement on that alone. In any case I would be more than happy to check up on members that seem to (by most members) be causing problems. The praise/report member feature already allows us to see what members are causing problems and the report tool gives us immediate notification of problems as they occur.

The hard part in all of this is allowing freedom to express ideas while also maintaining the friendly atmosphere of the site -- did I say that it was tough .
