We had an original biometrics appointment in detroit on March 30th 2007 which we went to and completed successful.

This summer we moved to Chicago area and changed our address with USCIS (I have mail confirmation of the change but they sent this notice to my parents address, who are moving soon)

Today we received a notice (exactly like the first in every way except the date) that we must go to detroit on September 20th for a biometrics appointment.

Does this mean that they lost our case information? In between the first Biometrics and now we went back to Japan using an Advanced Parole document, does this have anything to do with it?

Has this happened to anyone else? Is there anything we can do about this? I called the USCIS number but of course I couldn't talk to a human.

I am really worried about this.

Did you also apply for an EAD? Because both EAD and AOS require biometrics - but the biometrics are different for each. If you had applied for an EAD you may have done the EAD biometrics last March and the ones for September are for the actual AOS. Compare both of the biometric letters and see if they are both the same type - I believe it is A, B or C (or 1,2 3) - it has been a while and I don't recall the exact wording. If the 2 are absolutely identical in every way (except the date) then maybe you can make an Infopass appointment at your local USCIS office and ask them the question. If the class of letter is different, then one is EAD and the other is AOS. Again, you may wish to make an Infopass to check up on the transfer of your file and the change of address - you may be able to get the biometrics done in the Chicago area rather than having to head back to Detroit.

I can't think of any reason why using the AP this summer would have any affect on biometrics.

Yea, if you applied for EAD you will have a biometrics for it and one for the AOS. AOS is more detailed and do full fingerprints

We didn't move but David and Chris had to do two biometrics appointments a few months apart (even though the first bio appointment was for both EAD and AOS).

We called the 800# and they gave us some song-and-dance-BS theories but said they should go to the 2nd appointment. They got there and were told "you've already done the biometrics" No s**t, Sherlock! :bonk:

They showed them the new bio appointment letters and I think they did go ahead and do their bios again and sent them on their way. I never did know exactly why they had to do them twice but after the 2nd everything was processed as it was supposed to be.

It's possible that the FBI rejected the fingerprints for poor quality, etc. due to either being hard to fingerprint or the staff at the ASC not being vigilant in getting a good print. It's happened to a number of people here. It's not really anything to worry about, just get printed again and cross your fingers that you don't have to get printed again after this. :)

Is there any way to get them to have us go to a biometrics place in chicago instead of the 7 hours back to detroit?

You could make an infopass appointment at your closest district office and you can double-check your address with them at the same time.

which kind of appointment should i elect? none of them seem to meet what i want:

1) Order from Immigration Court - If you were directed to us for processing based on an order from the Immigration Judge. You must bring all documents required in the post order instructions given to you by the court.

2) Case Processing Appointment - If you received a notice to go to your local office for further case processing.

3) EAD inquiry appointment - If your I-765 employment authorization application has been pending for more than 90 days.

4) Case Services follow-up appointment - If it has been over 45 days since you contacted NCSC and have not received a response to your inquiry. You must bring the Service Request ID Number related to your inquiry to the appointment.

I'd choose #4 and bring all the AR-11 stuff with you (including the confirmation) along with the new biometrics appointment letter.

Also the codes are different. The old one was code 3 and the new one is code 1.

Missed this. What did they take at your first appointment? Maybe they missed something.

Code 3 is a full biometric collection - ie photo and fingerprints.

Code 1 is fingerprints only.

As misa suggested, something is amiss with your prints. They need to capture them again.

It sounds to me as if your physical case file has not yet made it from your old District Office to the new one. I agree an Infopass appointment is the way to go but I'm not certain what the result will be. Take all your documentation with you. I doubt very seriously they will 'force' you to make a seven hour journey for biometric capture. That would be ridiculous.

Thanks rebeccajo for the definitions of the codes. I had forgotten what they were but yes, for whatever reason it seems that the OP needs to do their fingerprints again.
