I know some people write to their senator, or whomever, but does it really do any good? Does it make the chance of getting visa for fiance to come quicker or better or????? What does it really do? We are dealing with Casablanca now, so does it make them more friendlier at the interview by knowing we contacted our Senator? Tell me please and must I do it. Is it only for a peace of mind that we have sounded off to them??????????

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

We tried, for sure it doesn't hurt. I guess in some cases if USICS is really slow they might be able to do something but if it is within their schedule they can't do anything. I don't think that contacting the senator might change anything at the interview, I don't have experience on that. Anyway, writing a letter will not hurt your case for sure... go for it!

Since you already have an interview scheduled, the senator won't do much for you (except maybe wish you luck at the interview). If you were having trouble getting an interview scheduled or something, they senators' offices might have been able to do something.

do you have a specific issue that you need assistance with? My app. was lost and was quickly found once my senator's office got involved. And once my hubby's here with green card in hand I'm going to write my senators, to explain what a backwards slow process this all is, but that's just so they have another tick in the "concerned about immigration" column. I'm one of those types that write my senators fairly often about many issues that concern me, get involved in democracy and all that.

But if you just want your senator to speed up the processing of your app or somehow make the interviewer go easy on you, you might as well save the ink. They can't and shouldn't do anything like that.

Sure, and your elected rep can be tremendously helpful, but not when your case has gone along on a decent schedule (119 days ti NOA2 and 167 days to interview, well within the processing timeframes) and your interview is in 11 days. They certainly aren't going to have the interview moved up to say 8 days from now because the 11 is too long of a wait, nor are they going to tell the consularofficer to go easy on my constituents fiance(e) during the interview. Unless there is a problem that needs to be address, OP probably will not get much success out of contacting an elected rep.

I have seen a lot of threads posted here with success stories from contacting an elected representative.

Writing to your senator won't do any good. They cannot do anything legally to help you without the privacy form available on their website.

And as others have said, they can only help when help is actually needed, and even then they can't always do much. If you needed an inquiry into your case status because you were outside of processing timeframes, they could probably help. If you want the interviewer to be "friendly" - contacting a senator definitely will not help but will be a waste of your time and theirs.
