Hey Guys,

On form 156 or 230 not sure now, it states were you ever in U.S before. I stated that i have worked there on a Tn visa. BUT, I worl offshore with a canadian company and sometimes the rigs i were on were in U.S waters. When the contracts were completed we were transported to airport in U.S and sent back to canada.

I stated working for the canadian company but never actualy stated that it was U.S waters. I also travelled to other countries and had connections in U.S airports. Does any of this count as being in U.S. Should i have documented that on forms as well.

Hopefully, I can explain that at interview. YES, maybe I am thinking too much.........3 more days........OMG

thanks.

I personally wouldn't sweat it.. if it does come up just explain it.. the interviewer will realize you just omitted it by error not because you were trying to hide anything..IMO it's hard for CDNS to document EVERY visit to the US as we DO pass through their airports etc. quite frequently. who could remember it all??

Focus on the positive my friend.. You are going to do well!!!

Passing through the US in an airport doesn't count as a visit, IMHO. And like Emancipation said, if it comes up, just explain what happened with your job.

Oh, and relax girl, it's gonna be fine. :)

As the others stated, I wouldn't worry about it. If they need further explanation, you can explain it to them. I don't think they're all that concerned with stop-overs and such at least not for Canadians. I visited the U.S. as a child quite often but of course didn't remember the dates so I just put a 10 year timeframe with "multiple visits". They didn't even ask. There are plenty of people who live near the border too who probably don't remember every time they crossed over for shopping and whatnot.

Remember that the DS-156 is used for all types of non-immigrant visas around the world so the questions are fairly generic.

Don't stress, you'll be fine! :)

Most Canadians have entered and exited the US so many time that it's impossible to track them all. As misa, Cassie and Emancipation have already stated the interview is pretty laidback. It is about asking a few basic questions to see if your lying about that hobo that decomposing in the trunk not about whether or not you can document every entry into the US. Be open about it, that way it looks like you are hiding nothing (except the hobo). I, like misa, wrote a small disclaimer noting that "there are other entries into the US but I have forgotten the dates and/or have no documentation in my records, these are all the entries I can recall or otherwise document."

Look at all the spelling and grammatical errors I made in my post. I've really should stop typing when I'm in the trunk.

my hubby used to work in the us on a j1 visa. so he put those dates plus all the dates that we could remember when he visited me. But didn't list any of his many visits to the US in the first 30ish years of his life. Until I read your post it never occured to me that they may want every single time he's crossed the border. During our interview it never came up. I think its assumed that his first visit to the US wasn't in the mid ninety's, but since he wasn't working in the US before then and it was before we met it didn't matter for the interview. They did ask to see his J1s but were satisfied when he said that he threw them away when they expired.

im sure it will be fine!! BUT only answer their questions, dont blab away, lol short and sweet is always good. When they ask u the questions, take a few seconds and think, before u enage the mouth, lol best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

The interviewer is an overworked, underappreciated bureaucrat. Try to make things as pleasant as possible. As Lanny MacDonald (flames9) states, do not be over anxious. I realize that you are well prepared but keep calm, you're Canadian after all. It's tough but if you get excited try to say phrases like "O my goodness," "I reckon so'" and "What are your parameters?" Avoid alcohol before the interview and do not challenge the interviewer to a steel cage match or a glass of shut up juice. That's about it. Seriously though you'll do fine, most of the interviewers are very nice and very helpful. Be yourself (as opposed to who, Lindsay Lohan?) and everything will be copecetic. Just remember you are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here... :)

Damn it. I wish I knew this ahead of time! :P

ALWAYS tell the truth!!! But no need to blab blab away on questions they do not ask.

The only time that it's good to blab away is if you have a common interest with the interviewer. :)
