I bet most liberals here believe an incestuous relationship between consenting adults is disgusting. But not homosexual relationships. I feel the same way. So me and the libs aren't truly accepting of all relationships.

It was pretty predictable that someone would sooner or later bring up incest, bestiality or pedophilia in defense of their tasteless opinions.

Why should homosexual and incestuous relationships be in any way comparable?

Its self-deception IMO. Same sort of self-deception that allows a person to convince themselves that they are not (for example) racist or homophobic merely by saying so when the whole sense of their argument screams the opposite. Even so - you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who would admit to being racist or homophobic, yet there is a lot of it about. I agree to a point that the reaction is emotional rather than reasoned - but we shouldn't forget racist/homophobic arguments can be heavily reasoned.

Its not all based on hysterical sentiment. Borat I think, is racist - and that movie is a deliberately conceived construction.

I think what is self-deceiving is the idea that merely accusing someone of racism or "homophobia" makes it so, and if they protest that it isn't true, that protest is itself taken as prima facie evidence that it is true.

That's a bit of a simplification. As I said - I very much doubt you'll find anyone who would willingly admit to being a racist or a homophobe. It just doesn't happen.

So you'd deny that there is any sense of "guilty until proven innocent" when it comes to accusations of racism or "homophobia"?

We're talking about forum posts. Other than clarifying a misunderstood post (which happens), how does a person 'prove' themselves innocent?

What frequently happens is that the person reacts in such a way as to validate the original interpretation (e.g. "I'm not a racist but I think black people are lazy..."). Certainly when the same interpretation is made by several different people.

Society has a line and its values change over time. Homosexuality used to be unacceptable, shameful and criminal. It is now not (doubtless there are still folks out there who feel it should be otherwise).

Regardless - making comparisons between incest (which is far from common - and there is no reason to expect that it would become so) and homosexuality are pretty irrelevant IMO.

In the same way that I find eating pigs feet to be disgusting, I find gay sex (men OR women) to be disgusting. Because I find it that way does not mean that no one should be able to engage in it, just that I don't want to see it or do it myself.

I'd be curious (but not trying to throw flames to the fire here) how many who have such negative feelings about homosexuality were victims of some form of sex abuse as a child by an adult of the same sex? Perhaps a poll so people remain anonymous if they choose?

I don't that would have too much to do with it to be honest. I could have gone to some bad schools - but I have a pretty clear recollection of the playground language - which employed a good deal of "n*gger", "Paki", "Faggot" and "Chink" epithets in addition to the usual "yer mother's a #######". I also remember having 'icky' feelings about homosexuals for no clear reason whatsoever - other than that someone introduced "gay" into a conversation and that it was used as an insult ever since.

In that sense I think a lot of it has to do with social conditioning and peer pressure, attitudes derived from your family, the media, friends and not forgetting everyone's favourite moral compass - the Church.

Apparently, homosexuality is in a hermetically sealed compartment. Any comparisons to any other minority sexual practices is automatically invalid.
