Hi guys,

I have a question. My husband's AOS interview is coming up in October in the downtown Los Angeles office. The letter we got in the mail states, "If you do not speak English fluently, you should bring an interpreter." My husband's english is coming along (thanks to his ESL classes), but he will definately need someone to translate. I speak spanish and english fluently and am able to translate, but I am not sure if this will be allowed (since I am his wife and will also be interviewed). Will I be allowed to translate?

Anyone who has had a recent interview in downtown L.A. who can let me know what they think. I'm thinking that some of the officials there may speak spanish, also considering that it is Los Angeles.

I'm worried if they separate us and we don't take an interpreter, :hehe: because my husband will have trouble understanding.

08/23/08: After 7 years together . . . Religious wedding ceremony and HUGE PARTY in Jalisco, Mexico (we deserve it)

08/24-08/30: Spend our honeymoon in Acapulco, Mexico

Sorry I can't help you with LA but just to add my suggestion that you definitely bring a translator. According to rules (very unfortunately) the spouse is not allowed to translate. There are reports of AOS interviews being denied because the questions in English were misunderstood! It will be easy for you because there are Spanish translators available all over the place. As for me, I'm searching for a local Telugu translator and am having a hard time; the rare Telugu people I can find are like my hubby, only speaking broken English! :crying:

Bring along a professional interpreter- if that's too spendy (usually is), bring along the uncle!!! I don' think they would allow you to act as the interpreter due to conflict of interest.... sad but true.

This interpreter rule suck!!!!! More money after spending $1010 on AOS. With that kind of money, wouldn't you think USCIS locally in San Francisco of all places could have a Spanish interpreter?

I interpreted for my husband, but that was in 2004 in San Diego. Our interviewer was originally from the Phillipines. He asked questions slowly so my husband could answer a few on his own, but mostly I talked.

Summer 2001--we met in Manzanillo, Mexico

10/02--129F submitted (We had 1 RFE)

7/03--Interview in Ciudad Juarez

2/15/04--Married

4/2/04--AOS submitted

8/23/04--Interview in Chula Vista, CA (approved pending name check)

5 EADs, 3 APs, multiple Senators' inquiries and infopass appts, 2 AOS biometrics,

and one move to Seattle later...

3/3/08--AOS Biometrics renewal in Seattle

6/9/08--10 year green card arrived in the mail. My husband is no longer in immigration limbo and is a realio, trulio permanent resident! It says he's been a resident since 04/17/2008.

1/17/11--Apply for Citizenship
