Sorry, I'm just a little ticked at some of the idiot responses I've seen. I went with him to court and watched this ###### unfold. Anyone who thinks that logic has a place in the law has never gone to court.

CALLED FROM WORK ONE DAY OVER AND OVER AGAIN, WENT HOME, SHE WAS NOT THERE. ETC ETC, WENT TO THE POLICE, SHE ACCUSED ME OF BEATING HERE. GOT THROWN IN JAIL FOR LIKE 3 DAYS. WENT TO COURT ON THE LAST DAY, NOT FOUND GUILTY.

Ok so you were in jail for 'like' 3 days? Then they had a trial on the last day and found you not guilty? Boy the American Justice system is speeeeeeedyyyy.

Once I got home, she was not there, I check the phone records (I use VONAGE), and it turns out she called the Ethiopian Chicago Community. I called there, and they told me yes she was at the police station. So I went to the police station to ask what was going on and it turns out she told them I was beating her. Needless to say I had to stay 3 days in jail because by law if a female reports you’re beating her, you MUST go to jail until your court date. Trust me a lawyer will not work until then. I got my day in court and the case was dropped by the state because there was no proof that anything ever took place. She of course took off, and didn’t return because I was going to follow the rules by INS and send her home.

Three or so months later the sheriff shows up at my door with a summons to go to court for a restraining order against me. About 2 months later I got my court date, and even though there was no evidence, nothing, I got a restraining order against me. It was during this time when I was in court she said I’m married to him. She showed the court a marriage certificate from Ethiopia. Well I was in shock!!! I told the court, I’m not married to her, I’m engaged. Turns out it was a marriage certificate. So after court, I talked to a lawyer, and told him I need to get an annulment. During the process of the annulment, her lawyer told my lawyer they wanted a divorce instead of a annulment. She wanted half of my stuff via a divorce. I was so mad, I said okay I’ll give you a divorce if you don’t ask for nothing. They agreed to the divorce and they won’t ask for anything. Well as of today, I’m divorce from her.

Also I turns out she was just trying to get a divorce so she can self petition herself on grounds of abuse. So she gets to stay here free in our country and I get to keep my stuff.

We all know that. The OP didn't know they were officially married. He thought his ceremony was just an engagement ceremony. It's happened before here on VJ. I had a ceremony I wasn't sure about. It turns out it was just an engagement ceremony.

If you want to go down that road: The point you're missing is that she can't deny knowing that she was indeed married. That would put her into a position where she can't stay here - whether she's a victim of abuse or not. The USCIS is kind of funny that way. They see a married person entering as a K1 and that's that. She wouldn't have a leg to stand on as she would have declared at the US Consulate at the time of her K1 interview that she was, indeed, eligible to marry her petitioner which she would have known good and well to be untrue. Case closed. Alien gone.

I know. If the story is true SHE is a complete fraud and committed fraud.

it takes a lot more energy into trying to prove someone is lying, dissecting the who, what's and where's... Yeah, I've been duped by believing a troll's tale on here before, even the tall tales of long-time, frequently posting members and they aren't forever branded by the VJ crowd. Not thinking of anyone in particular though....

If this happened, sorry to hear it...sounds like quite a piece of work (the now ex-wife). If it didn't... what's for lunch?
