I know already by posting this I’m going to catch a huge backlash from people on this site because the of course will say “won’t happen to me”. I just want to warn everyone here that lives in a good country to watch out for yourselves. Be vary careful before you allow someone into your country.

Let me tell you what happened. I meant someone online and began the early steps of trying to know this person. After 6 or so months I was ready to meet this person and possible get engaged. I went go visit her and everything was great. I got engaged but it turns out it was an actual marriage, not an engagement. I at this time didn’t know I was married. (I’ll fill you in more later). I applied for the K1 VISA. She came here to the US on the K1 and things didn’t work out and according to the rules, if you don’t marry within 90 days, the person must return to their home country. So I purchased a ticket and one day when I was at work, I tried to call my house to see how everything was going. No one picked up the phone, so after many calls, I knew something was wrong so I went home. Once I got home, she was not there, I check the phone records (I use VONAGE), and it turns out she called the Ethiopian Chicago Community. I called there, and they told me yes she was at the police station. So I went to the police station to ask what was going on and it turns out she told them I was beating her. Needless to say I had to stay 3 days in jail because by law if a female reports you’re beating her, you MUST go to jail until your court date. Trust me a lawyer will not work until then. I got my day in court and the case was dropped by the state because there was no proof that anything ever took place. She of course took off, and didn’t return because I was going to follow the rules by INS and send her home.

Three or so months later the sheriff shows up at my door with a summons to go to court for a restraining order against me. About 2 months later I got my court date, and even though there was no evidence, nothing, I got a restraining order against me. It was during this time when I was in court she said I’m married to him. She showed the court a marriage certificate from Ethiopia. Well I was in shock!!! I told the court, I’m not married to her, I’m engaged. Turns out it was a marriage certificate. So after court, I talked to a lawyer, and told him I need to get an annulment. During the process of the annulment, her lawyer told my lawyer they wanted a divorce instead of a annulment. She wanted half of my stuff via a divorce. I was so mad, I said okay I’ll give you a divorce if you don’t ask for nothing. They agreed to the divorce and they won’t ask for anything. Well as of today, I’m divorce from her.

So here is my message to everyone, be forewarned. Don’t do it unless you really know this person. If I could do this again, I would have never have done it. Here is a link to the same thing that has happened to other guys like me: http://www.vdare.com/mann/deportaliens/letters.htm

Also I turns out she was just trying to get a divorce so she can self petition herself on grounds of abuse. So she gets to stay here free in our country and I get to keep my stuff.

eh, I wouldn't be so quick to call him a troll.

He's had a really bad experience, and is hoping to maybe warn others about the possibilities that are out there. Someone else posted recently about someone who had married him just to get into the country as well.

moral of the story: make sure you know the person very well, and don't rush into things. A lot of the VJ members have known their SO for longer than a few months, so I'm sure most of us are entering (or have already entered into) a valid marriage.

While there are many of us who have had great successful marriages even though the person we married was from far away, there are cases like this sometimes and it is sad.

The OP's join date is May 04 and that is one reason I think it's a genuine person and not a troll.

Of course everyone should take the advice to make sure you really know who you are planning on marrying! :)

I know there are trolls on VJ but why do people assume it's a troll just because they post a horror story? Bad things happen in different people's lives every day.

I think this person was just sharing an awful experience. I mean, having joined last May he prolly used this forum as a help guide to his fiance to US.

And yes, there are many out there who would pretend to love someone for a year or longer just to get a green card.

I hope all of us have happy marriages. :)

Besides, if his story isn´t true and he´s a troll, doesn´t make it less believable that someone would do that, and yes, we should all be careful with those. Including us alien fiances. I mean, one day we can marry an USC thinking we found the love of our lives and get abused, beaten on, or even killed.

The story doesn't smell right from a legal point of view.

The OP is a troll if you know the process well enough you can pick out at least 3 inconsistancys.
