"Wedding" on Saturday

My fiancee has been worrying about what she'll say at the border tomorrow when she heads over for our "wedding" on Saturday. She'll be driving and will have her daughter, her two bridesmaids, and her mother with her. The others are staying until Saturday evening, and Kristy is staying until next Thursday. What should she say at the border while still telling the truth, but not giving the impression to the officer that she's getting married and is planning on staying?

The questions are usually:

Citizenship?

Where are you going?

How long are you going to be?

Any tobacco or alcohol?

Ok I read and re read so that I got it. There is no 'legal wedding' since you said you don't want to give the 'impression' she's staying cause she's not.

First there should be no 'wedding type stuff' in the car with Kristy. No bridesmaids gowns, no wedding dress, no nothing. Now as to the answer to 'where are you going' it's up to her I guess. 'Fiance's family reunion' could be a possible answer since I'm sure your family is going to be 're uniting' for the occaision. If she says 'party' in general the next question may be 'what kind of party, who's party, etc'. As for the 'how long are you going to be' question that will be tricky since the truth is she'll be there till thursday and everyone else in the car will either be staying 'overnight' or just for the day depending on when they are crossing.

If she say's the word fiance then she may be ok with a different return time than everyone else though it brings up the question of how she's getting home which may look like she's staying. Personally I'd lie and say I was coming back with everyone else LOL If she's not driving this gives her an easy out since they only ask the driver where everyone is going. So if the driver is a friend of Kristy and yours then the friend can say 'we're going to a party at my friend's house' and say everyone in the car is staying the day or whatever.

When I entered to actually get legally married I didn't have the dress though I did bring the dress back and forth across the border about 3 times. Only one who gave me a hard time was the cdn customs guy cause I think he was looking for some tax money which he didn't get LOL As for when I entered the US to get married all I can say is NEXUS RULES! Rarely ever get asked why I'm going over though if they would have asked I would have said 'to visit my fiance' since on that 'particular' day I entered that's what I was doing. It's all word games in my opinion.

I know people on here are advocates of 'not lying' to customs. Sorry but I do it all the time and I'm not ashamed :innocent: I also bring things across and don't declare them  Though I always declare my alcohol and tobacco and I never bring produce or meat. Those seem to be the things they care about.

I know this is long but what can I say. Bottom line is get the story straight before everyone gets in the car and go over the story so everyone gets it right LOL

Sorry for the confusion in my initial post. No, we weren't getting legally married, hence "wedding" in quotes and the (aka $10K party) in my signature. But, my fiancee crossed the border with no problem, as she was more or less interrupted by the CBP officer with asking how everyone in the car was related. The boyfriend of the groom, however, was not as lucky. He tried to cross on Saturday night, and was detained by either customs or immigration (not sure which at this point) for two and a half hours and then turned around. When he was asked where he was going, he replied "a wedding" and then when asked whose, he replied "I dunno, but my girlfriend's in it and there already." Apparently he sounded suspicious, but that was also the first time he ever tried to cross, too, so I'd imagine he was a bit nervous, too.

OK, I finally reread this, and it was not the "boyfriend of the groom" it was the "boyfriend of the maid of honor."

I'm now back from the honeymoon, and just got the wedding pictures on CD, so I'll probably get some posted online sometime soon.

Yeah, so I guess I've left a lot of stuff hanging!

I ended up getting my groomsmen a drinking game / shot glass set thing-a-ma-bobber from Green Earth. And, I can keep the wires off of my jaw!!! It's started healing in the middle and now is just fractured on the top and bottom, so I just need to continue with my soft-diet.

Also, I have some other news, but I think I'll leave that for a new topic...

I have two CDs from the photographer sitting on my desk next to me right now. However, I just got off the phone with Kristy, and I am NOT to look at them without her, unless the temptation is WAY too strong. And, trust me, the temptation is quite strong, as I want to pull out all my useless Photoshop knowledge on them.
