My fiancee has been worrying about what she'll say at the border tomorrow when she heads over for our "wedding" on Saturday. She'll be driving and will have her daughter, her two bridesmaids, and her mother with her. The others are staying until Saturday evening, and Kristy is staying until next Thursday. What should she say at the border while still telling the truth, but not giving the impression to the officer that she's getting married and is planning on staying?

The questions are usually:

Citizenship?

Where are you going?

How long are you going to be?

Any tobacco or alcohol?

I'm confused...

are you applying for K-1? By your timeline you don't have your visa yet.. how are you getting married?

AOS:

2007-02-22: Sent AOS /EAD

2007-03-06 : NOA1 AOS /EAD

2007-03-28: Transferred to CSC

2007-05-17: EAD Card Production Ordered

2007-05-21: I485 Approved

2007-05-24: EAD Card Received

2007-06-01: Green Card Received!!

Removal of Conditions:

2009-02-27: Sent I-751

2009-03-07: NOA I-751

2009-03-31: Biometrics Appt. Hartford

2009-07-21: Touched (first time since biometrics) Perhaps address change?

um...you probably know this already from how you stated the above - but if she is getting married and planning on staying, she is coming here illegally unless she has a K3 visa. Border would be completely within their rights to deny entry if they even get a whiff that this is what she is planning to do.

17 February 2004 Sent I-129F petition CSC - It was APPROVED in 147 days

3 September 2004 INTERVIEW IN LONDON SUCCESSFUL VISA APPROVED! MARRIED OCTOBER 16, 2004

ADJUSTMENT OF STATUS - 5 MONTHS

4 January 2005 - Submitted applications for AOS and EAD - 12 May 2005 Conditional Permanent Residency Approved - interview in Santa Ana

4 June 2005 CPR 2-year Green Card arrives in mail

REMOVAL OF CONDITIONS - 3½ MONTHS

8 May 2007 - I-751 sent to CSC - 23 August 2007 - Approved - Card production ordered

30 August 2007 - 10 year Green Card received

K2 TIMELINE (Stayed behind in UK to finish school)

28 March 2005 - embassy interview & medical London - visa granted

01/18/06 Applications for AOS/EAD sent - 03/28/06 EAD approved

4/3/06 - RFE for AOS - requested new medical and vacc supplement

4/26/06 - approved without interview and welcome letter sent

05/02/2006 - Greencard arrives in mail

i think if she says that she is coming here to get married, i think they might deny her entry. I would suggest that she brings all her supporing STRONG ties that she has with canada so there wont be any problems.

Well, she had the medial a month ago. Maybe she does have the visa.

If she has the visa, why would she need to lie? And, then "planning on staying" is a given.

No, she's going over to have a big party. It's not a legal wedding or anything and she's not staying.

Jeremy, will they be bringing their dresses and stuff with them? You *might* want to head across the border and drive that across yourself as the USC.

They can say they are going to a party (true) if asked. How often does she normally cross or do you do all the crossing? Can she have one of her bridesmaids drive? They're going to a friend's party (true).

If you are not getting married then why would she want to tell them she is???? why would she even mention a wedding.... if you are having a party because you booked your wedding before you had the visa and are just having the reception so you dont loose money then it is just a party... nothing more...

but if she is bringing all the wedding dresses with her then you may want to change that plan, I am sure if the CBP officer sees wedding dresses in the trunk or cases she will most likely get denied entry....

Yeah I got confused when I saw you were having your wedding on Sept 1 but couldnt find if you already had your K-1...

she's not coming down for a "wedding" she's coming for a really elaborate engagement party. But I'm with Misa-if you or some other USC friend could transport the dress, many of the more difficult questions could be avoided.

Gave up on ridiculously long US process-started Canadian

LSS app returned because of missed signatures, lost in transit, resubmitted in June

9/28/05 landed, yippie

10/4/05 fly back to US to "finish up Master's" lose mind and switch to PhD

Damn it back to the US process

3/something/2005 finally get NOA2, no idea why it took so long

4/15/07 get case approval from NVC

8/9/07 Montreal here we come

10/14/07 hubby activated his visa

I find the guys at Port Huron, the nicest. Tell them a party and shopping....they will go shopping somewhere, they are woman. Tell them to not be nervous when they go over, because they should be excited about the party!

Oct 1/09 - I-751 package sent

Oct 3 - package delivered

Oct 5 - NOA mailed

Oct 13 - 1st NOA received and additional letters for my daughters I filed with. NOAs stated Resident Status

has been extended for 1 year and that we will be receiving a letter for an ASC appointment for

fingerprints, photo, and signature.

Dec 2009 - Received 10 year permanent resident card.

Feb 2010 - My children received their 10 year permanent resident cards.

Oct 2010 - My children were legally adopted by my USA Citizen husband.
