Oh really......

So I suppose based on your constant promoting of tourist visa or overstay visa marriages to US citizens your spouse was here in the USA illegally and overstayed his/her visa also? And then we all wonder what is wrong with immigration system, the gray area loopholes need to be closed forever and everyone follow the rules and procedures of one way to marry and then that would end all this fraud, which it is obvious it is going on along with those that are truly legit.

Just to add a little something here since I get everyone upset with my last post (plus we are all here to express our opinions, I did address anyone personally and did not mean to offend anyone).

I believe (and no, I don't have any statistics to prove it, just my opinion) that if you are really planning a life together you usually don't just 'go for it' without any long-term plans. Getting married is not like buying a pair of shoes that look nice. Marriage is a commitment that has long-term consequences, whether it works out or not. In my opinion (and yes, I'm sorry if I upset someone here again) people who are getting married (mainly while on a tourist visa or VWP) are taking the easy way out and this option is a big loop hole for many who are just getting married for the sake of coming to the US or in some cases, money.

And.. this has nothing to do with ignorance. Why were the K1, K3/CR-1 visas established in the first place? Why not let everyone get married as they like and live wherever they feel like? It's a complex matter and I strongly believe that it should be either one way or another and the grey area should not be an option.

Do you understand spontaneous marriage? Meaning you planned it AFTER you entered. My husband met me after he entered. We planned a small wedding. We had a date.

MANY people on tourist visas are overstays. Student visas are in the country for YEARS. The idea of meeting someone is really that crazy to you? The's asinine.

Commenting to members about LEGAL options available to them is NOT "promoting tourist visa or overstay marriages". There are circumstance in which this is a legitimate legal option, and there are circumstances where this would not be. Have you been able to figure out the nuance between the two yet, instead of blanketing them with your "someone took my cookie" rhetoric?

Same misinformation, day after day ZQT.

People like that are the reason hundreds of thousands of us are alone every night for a year or more without our loved ones. It's people like this that make the statement, "I love you" not matter as much as tax returns, joint bank accounts, etc. It's a damn shame.

5 years investigation and all they came up with was 50 fraudulent marriages. Wow. That is not very many. They are either very incompetent, or sham marriages are not as common as people think.

I don't think this necessarily shows how incompetetant USCIS is at weeding out fraudulant marriages.

it wasn't the USCIS conducting the investigation, it was a US customs enforcement task force or some such, basically people who's only job was to find people running visa scams. Seems like all they would have had to do is go undercover in an ESOL class :star:

I am still dumbfounded by the fact that if you get married in the US on a tourist visa, student visa, etc., you are allowed to stay in the US. IMO it would make more sense the make the spouse go back to his/her country and wait like the rest of us. Why do they get to skip the like just because they got married here? Why can't couples that got married in other countries come here to wait?

Sorry if I offend anyone...

But it seems to me that if they made the spouse go back to his/her country to wait like the rest of us, it would make it harder for them to defraud the government like they did in the article.

i understand that stuff happens and that there are good reasons some might have for getting married while on visitor visa or what ever ..............but the fraud cases or cases of our government on a witch hunt really ticks me off im sitting here over a year waiting for simple k 1 noa2 and someone comes into the usa on an easier visa to either intentionally get a gc.....or create terrorist acts .........to my knowledge no terrorist act has ever been done by someone that is on k1 or any other marraige visa..........why are the people that are real being made to wait so long? does it upset me when i hear stories of people coming on visitor visa or business visa or any other easy visa and getting married and it was planned before they came yes it sure does........perviz could have came on a visa for medical conference or something similar......but we wanted to do it the RIGHT way may God help those of us that try to do immigration the right for the right reasons because our government sure is not

sorry folks im having a really off day today about all of this

Sara, I really feel for you. It would kill me if I had to be away from my fiance as long as you've been away from yours. That's why I think even the ones that get married here should have to go back to their countries to wait it out. That way no one would be able to short cut the system.

:ot: Have you tried to call your congress man? I read a discussion in the guides from a former USCIS employee that said congressionals get immediate attention above the rest. I think your case is waaay past the date that a congressional would be appropriate. Hope your day gets better :)

It is not fair that you put everyone in the same basket. I am one of "those" people as you say. I'd rather shut up than get mad!

AOS Approved on 10-17-08 (details in profile)

Removal of Conditions on 07-19-10

In this tedious process, we tend to forget that this is all worth it.

I love my hubby beyond anything in this world.

I new here. I've been reading this thread with interest. What are the chances of a fraud investigation in this scenario? This actually happened to me. I met this woman, on a tourist visa, through her cousin(my coworker). We got to know each other in a week. We got a marriage license and a joint bank account. We were to be married in one week from the license application. She wanted a green card and I was doing a friend a favor. It was only after getting the license that I read the forms for filing with the USCIS that I got worried. Especially about the fraud part. So I called off the wedding. I told them I wanted no part of a sham marriage. They were pissed. So the woman left her cousin's house to stay with her aunt in the next town. I later learned that she applied for a visa extension because her visa was expiring in a month's time. But within 17 days of getting the first marriage license with me she went and married another man. I was surprised. I was told that she was going to her home country but in the meantime she met a soldier through her aunt and they apparently fell in love and got married. All in weeks time. So I asked my coworker how can this be? She told me that her cousin was so distraught that she really fell in love this time and it's all legit. I don't buy it. Not only that I learned that the soldier had his so called bride apply for and receive an ID card and medical card. They are also staying at the aunt's house so they are receiving BAH(Basic Allowance for Housing) money which is tax free. Heck she did better for herself than marrying me. Would having two marriage licenses with two different men, getting married to the second man and having filed for a visa extension while doing it trigger a fraud investigation with the USCIS or ICE? With the groom being a soldier he also has to worry about the US Army Criminal Investigation Command. Does getting married on a tourist visa automatically trigger a fraud investigation especially in this case? Is the USCIS so overworked that this will slip through? I guess those women are counting on it. I know the woman's intent is to get a GC and eventual citizenship. Has anyone heard of this happening? I'm not one to report people for flaunting immigration laws and I wouldn't like to be a witness against them in an investigation. Then again the fraud in this is so obvious. Just had to get this off my chest.
