Unfortunately, companies have their own processes for what they require to show work authorization. They don't HAVE to accept anything other than what falls into their standard procedures.

Really? A company can choose what is "acceptable"?

http://www.usdoj.gov/crt/osc/txt/emp_g.txt

* Allow your employees to show you documents of their choice-as long as the documents prove identity and work eligibility and appear on the list

of acceptable documents. You may not ask for specific documents.

http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-9.pdf

List of Acceptable Documents

Documents that Establish Employment Eligibility

Unexpired employment authorization document issued by DHS (other than those listed under List A)

Seems to me Disney needs to review the I-9 requirements and the Handbook for Employers (http://www.hccpawv.com/pdfs/HandbookforEmployers.pdf)

Wish this board had the 'thanks' function!

I thought that it was at the employer's discretion to decide which sort of proof they would accept - at least in the case of an 'interim' benefit like the temp EAD stamp.

Armed with that info above, I'd go back to them, too!

I knew about what kitkat1 posted, I signed that document for them, where it states they cant tell me what kind of document they are going to take as long as it is legal because they could be discriminating. (that is basicaly what it says, right?). They like totally flipped out!!! NOBODY IS DISCRIMINATING YOU CARLA, WE JUST CANT TAKE THIS PAPER!!! WE NEED YOUR CARD!!! THERE IS NO DISCRIMINATION HERE!!!

It was kindda funny, I thought she was trying to say: THERE IS NO DISCRIMINATION, NO NEED TO GET A LAWYER & BAD PUBLICITY, SHUT UP B4 I LOSE MY JOB FOR BEING IGNORANT.

We lost the place that we were renting because we couldnt afford it anymore (we thought I was going to be earning some money too), My EAD stamp is about to expire in a couple of weeks and I didnt look for any other place to work at because Disney kept me for a long time in this hiring process.

I dnt think there is a whole lot I can do about this one, since my husband works there and I think this could get him in troubles.

Thanks for your suggestions.

What do you think?? :)

Depends on how hard you want to push them -- I would print out the list of acceptable documents from the USCIS website, highlight the website address so they can see it's USCIS, highlight the one that indicates "Unexpired employment authorization document issued by DHS (other than those listed under List A)" and shove it in their face. Then again, if you only have a few weeks left on your EAD and don't have your card yet, might be rather futile.

Hey Carla-Justin,

I am in a similar situation but not as far in the hiring process. Could you let us know how this story continued? Did you have to stop working?

I am also worried about my temp EA stamp because it is so blurred you cannot even read it ...

Thanks,

Arnt
