My aunt got married to a canadian man last January of this year. Husband returns to Canada after a month to begin processing my aunt's spousal visa. As of the moment the said petition was already approved in Canada Immigration and that its already forwarded in the Embassy here in Philippines. But just this morning a sad thing happened. She got call from the family of her husband that he died because of car accident. Felt so sad for my aunt. She doesn't know what do now. Now my question is - does anyone here know what would the best thing my aunt should do so that she can even see the dead body of her husband for the last time? Can she still come to Canada even if her petitioner died already?

Hope to hear from anyone here. It is highly appreciated. Thank you so much and God bless us all!

How tragic... so sorry to hear of this.. My thoughts are with your family..

Are you asking about a visit to Canada to attend the funeral/graveside, or are you asking about something more long term?

I'm sooooo sorry to hear that. Definitely have your aunt contact the Canadian visa office in Manila. Hopefully her husband's family can help her through this as well, at least for a visit.

I would also suggest to review the guides Citizenship and Immigration Canada has for these cases. Before the law changed in I think 2003; there was space for what used to be called "compassionate and humanitarian cases" (which back then applied to same sex couples, who are now allowed to file as spouses, but that's another story). Call the Embassy.

Sorry about the news - my prayers are with your family

L.
