The China Airlines plane near the Naha airport terminal building in Okinawa, Japan. A spokesman for the Taiwanese airline said the Boeing 737 caught alight after it skidded on the tarmac on its way to a gate after landing.

"The fire started when the left engine exploded a minute after the aircraft entered the parking spot," the transport ministry official AhihikoTamura said.

There is a reason why China Airlines is so cheap.............................BOOM

Hehe, well, usually they are about the same price as EVA Air. And EVA has had no accidents.

But China Air does have a really bad safety record. Some of the problems have to do with the pilots being ex-military. Trying to fly a passenger plane as a jet fighter I guess. But they have had some issues with maintenance too.

I fly all the time and this exact scenario plays in my head each time the wheels hit the tarmac. I hold my breathe for a moment as the plane shimmies into a straight alignment, praying that this precise thing does not happen. But if I had to be involved in a plane accident, this would be the best for survival odds. Uuuuhhh, gives me the creeps!

No kidding...I saw a video that started as the passengers were escaping. The pilots jumped out of the cockpit just seconds before the plane exploded

Even back in the day when I had to make trips between Vancouver and HK, China Airlines had a really horrible rep for their accidents. Sad to see that things still haven't changed. :(

I used to be a decent flyer, but now I'm a nervous wreck - and now I have this to be paranoid about!

Statistically you are more likely to be in an accident involving aircraft while the aircraft is on the ground than in the air. The most dangerous period of a flight for an aeroplane is when it is taxiing around the airport.
