Hi Guys

I recently started a job in UK, but only plan on staying in it until i get my visa - hopefully less than 4 months. Does anyone know if theres any way to stop the NI deductions coming out of my paycheck each month? I dont ever imagine i will return to the UK to live, and i am only 21 so my personal NI contributions to date are minimal to say the least, so there would be hardly any state pensions from the NI anyway.

Basically what im asking is...is there anyway to stop NI deductions?

No there is no way of not paying NI conts.... even if you never claim any benefits or services you still have to pay it.... what you can do is to file a from P85 with the inland revenue once you have moved to the US and claim back some of the tax you have paid for this tax year...

Ddkm, if you want some sort of tax rebate your best bet is probably by filling out a Form P85. http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/cnr/p85_p85s.htm

I don't think it's possible to stop these NI deductions or to have the monies returned to your account. your best bet is probably to "contract" out of your NI contributions; i.e. the NI contributions that would have gone into your State Second Pension (previously known as SERPS) can instead be put into a personal or stakeholder pension scheme. You might find these a bit of a hassle and not worth your time as your only going to be working there for a few more months. Bear in mind that from the government's point of view they want to make sure that the money is invested in a plan that will provide you income post-retirement so I think simply stopping the NI as you're leaving the country soon is probably a non-starter.

unfortunately there is no way that you can stop your NI contributions, and even if you never make a claim on them if you are out of the country.....rest assured the money you put in will be used by someone else so at least its not wasted!!
