OK. We just got back from interview. I will review later, but for now some quick points....

The I-130 was approved, but we are pending name check for the I-485. Hard to believe, since his name may be a male name in Scotland, but over here, it is most decidely female.

He is one to not care about something until it becomes something to care about, so outside the JFK building, he started asking about name check. I noticed that recent posts contained comments that they were stuck in name check, even though they signed off on officals acts, gained high level security clearance and whatnot.......could/would this be the cause of the muck up? He is a software engineer and worked on some high level projects some required clearance some could be curiosity factors.

Also, for reference, if the non-USC has a Social Security card - bring it. He arrived on an H1B so he has had one for 7 years. They asked him for his, even though it was never requested on the I-485 interview notice - and the SSA is adamant that you do not carry it around with you. Fortunately, he never bothered to take it out of his wallet.

USCs bring your passport if the name on your birth certificate is not referenced on any other document (drivers license) that you may provide. There was no connection between my current name (married name) and the one on the birth certificate, and he needed some proof that I was indeed a USC. He laughed and apologized for the technicality. Again, we were over prepared, and since the passports are kept together, mine was there.

It sucks, we know. My Wife signed the official secrets act twice and it still took 9 months and 22 days for her to clear the name check. That is not the case with everyone, but for some it does take awhile. There is no rhyme or reason.

Welcome to the name check club! Please take a pew and make yourself comfortable because you could be here for a while

Today I have sent off letters to Michael Chertoff (Secretary for Homeland Security), Robert Mueller (Director of the FBI), Michael Cannon (Section Cheif for the Name Check Department at the FBI), William Hooton (Records Manager at the FBI) and Laura Bush (First Lady who is a lot smarter than her husband). I have explained my situation, told them all about my previous employment history with the Ministry of Defence and British police and included a picture of myself to remind them that I am a real individual with a life waiting to be lived. Hopefully we'll get something positive out of one of them but I will not hold my breath.

Incidentally the picture is one of me posing CSI Miami stylee with my police badge on my belt, hand on hip, sunnies on face, looking unsmilingly at the camera in front of a TVP Vauxhall Omega response vehicle  ! Hopefully, the subliminal message that I am a decent law abiding fella will get through to them.

So, I checked online to see if there were any touches (yes, I enjoy torture, can't you tell) and much to my shock, the I-485 and I-130 were touched today. There is no "update" on the I-485 and we already received the I-130 approval notice on Tuesday.

Be honest, this is just the placement of our file next to box that contains the Ark of the Covenant, isn't it?

Did anyone notice touches to their files after the interview, while awaiting name check to clear? Does it mean anything? Yes, I am hoping there are some psychics out there.

Thanks.

Our AOS file recieved several touches shortly after submission, then one after biometrics were collected. There was only one other unexplained touch about midway through the next 15 months.

Once the case was approved, there were several touches within the span of two weeks as the file was wrapped up and the card produced.

Thank you for the information. Now the wait to see if there will be more touches to come, or if it is just getting comfy.

I seem to remember a touch about a week after the interview--May 11, if memory serves. The next touch after that was December 8, then July 12. In the case of the last two, I was pretty excited because I was so used to seeing the same last-touch date for months on end. Alas, it was likely just someone checking to see if the FBI results were back--which they weren't. From what people have posted, multiple touches in a short period (say, within a week or two) is a good sign.
