Record Number of Americans Lack Health Insurance

Ok, so the NHS (UK's National Health Service) is not the best healthcare system in the world,

but it sure as heck beats no healthcare. At the end of the day, anyone who needs healthcare

in the UK gets it -- no payments, no copayments, no nothing.

Seriously, what's so horrible about extending Medicare to everyone?

It will probably happen eventually, but I think the states will do it first. Massachusetts already requires everyone to get health insurance, though I don't think they have a program that allows everyone to buy from the state health care program.

15.3 percent of 300 million is about 46 million people without health insurance.

California is working on a similar proposal, but Arnold is threatening to veto - not because he's against it (he is in favor), but there is a disagreement on who shoulders the cost.

But..... we already have a Medicare tax - 2.9% - paid by the employee and the employer.

Is 2.9% not enough? I bet it's already more than what the UK spends on healthcare.

It will be a tax increase but it will be shouldered by both employers and employees. I believe it would be a win, win situation because those companies already providing health insurance would pay less and no more premiums for employees. It's the companies who currently don't provide insurance who are complaining.

People who have excellent health insurance through their employers (and no premiums)

will probably complain as well.

medical is a basic human right in most countries..but not here....

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

It doesn't matter, with the way our congress works we will never have socialized medicine. (God willing)

Why is that? Congress represents the people, and the people want free healthcare.

Don't be silly, Charles. All people get sick at some point in their lives, it's not

something we 'want' or can choose or control.
