They scam in Egypt, too. There's a very famous case of a woman who made loads of money begging in Alexandria. She had her kids doing it too. Turned out this woman owned a few homes and cars. Ppl in Egypt have been known to harm themselves in order to appear to be disabled.

I don't give them anything in the US BUT I have asked my husband to give one beggar a day in Cairo at least a couple of pounds for me from now until he gets here. That way I know for a FACT they need it and it will go to a good cause.

Here there is a huge scam with pan handlers going on so you just don't know who to trust and who not to. It's a darn shame too.

I used to give money and then I decided upon food if say the person approached me outside a restaurant etc. After giving money once in college to a man who supposedly had car trouble and then seeing this same man with the same story about two weeks later, I decided to just pray when I saw them. For sure, God can help him/her better than I ever could and that is how I handle it.

I remember there was a woman in Melbourne who would always beg in the city. She latter died and they found out that she had over $1 million in cash stashed up at home..

I don't mind one way or another if people want to give, they give, if they don't, there is no one here saying they have to...but what is the point of this thread? To try to get panhandling banned? It's not going to happen. People will beg if they need to, end of story. Getting all riled up about it is not change anything.

As I said before, I simply don't get why some people are so interested in interfering in/scrutinizing the lives of people who are, whatever way you look at it, in abject circumstances (Melbourne mllionaires not withstanding!).

No. you have them work for you, then you tell them that makes up for the public assistance they just took.

Hell if they can write they can fill out a application.

I hate to break it to you, but if you 'give' somebody something, it's not public assistance.

If you're going to rant, at least make it intelligent.

Seeing a rant in a sarcastic joke? A personal attack on my intelligence? Coming from such a compassionate soul shows the depth in which your compassion runs.

There is plenty of good and bad in the world its your choice what you wish to concentrate on.

Im a sucker for homeless ppl. My cousin was murdered just a few months back and he was homeless. he had 90$ on his that he worked for doing yard work around st petersburg fl. He was shot that night by 3 kids who saw him counting it in the burger king he had just purchased his meal at, 5 mins after leaving burger king, they gunned him down.

I give food usually. Here in gainesville florida we have ALOT of homeless bc the VA hospital is here. They atleast know they can get their free medical. But as soon as they are well the hospital throws them back on the street (yaaay for the government)!! anywhooo, i give a couple dollars here and there, but usally food. and it dont matter what they are given, makes me feel good to see them smile.

I remember when i was in Romania in 2000, there were some kids begging on the street, and i had just bought a bunch of bread for a holiday dinner we were having. I gave the kids the bread and told my friend we can buy more for us. he yelled at me, saying they are gypsies and they wont even get to taste the bread, its going to their parents who will eat it and then send them out to gather more food or money. i didnt care, i still did it.
