I don't have the time to reply to every post in this thread, but I thought I'd reply to the most egregious posts on this page -- i.e. the ones I disagree with most strongly. Nothing personal, just opinions..

I think all the angry people are misinformed about two things - one is the agenda of the racist to call working mexicans with jobs as 'Illegal' - but the corporations/businesses that hire them to be 'perfectly legal' - these people are not illegal even if bred in a tube! The term should be undocumented workers just like us in the AOS process - we are waiting for our cards and are in the 'racist' terms - 'illegal'. And finally who are these people calling illegals? The true legals are the Indians that welcomed the immigrants not the racist a**h***. There that makes me feel better - now another carona here please.
Whether you like it or not, they are here illegally. Federal law states that persons may only enter this country through designated points of entry, and federal law states that only approved persons (visa holders, U.S. citizens, green card holders, etc) have the right to enter the U.S. and stay.

Illegal immigrants do not come through POEs, and do not have valid supporting documentation affirming their right to legally reside in the U.S. They don't have it because they're not legally entitled to be in this country. Thus, they are living here illegally. Nor do they have valid work authorization, thus they are working here illegally.

Nothing infuriates me more than people whom have the chutzpah to call them "undocumented" immigrants. What, did they mail their application to the NVC and it got lost in the mail? Did they "forget" their documents some place, or lose them? Bzzt, no; they never had them because they have no intention of following immigration law. Thus, illegals.

How are they hurting you by being here? Like it or not "illegal" immigrants make your life a heck of a lot cheaper. And it's not like they get any rights like social security or medicaid that our tax dollars have to pay for. Honestly, I think that the people who have such animosity towards "illegals" are really just bitter that it takes as long as it does and it costs as much as it does to do it the right way. If it wasn't for immigration, most of us wouldn't be here anyway. If someone brings their whole family here and they're working, and living, and paying bills and enjoying their lives, why should anyone tell them to leave? Who are they hurting? They're not terrorists, they're not subversives. They're just people who want the things for their families that everyone wants. Security, a decent roof over their heads, ample food on the table. And what are they sacrificing in order to get this? They're sacrificing the ability to lead a normal life without having to look over their shoulders. You did it the right way. So did my husband. He and I are lucky to know that he's here now. No one can take him away. But what if I had met him and he had been an "illegal" immigrant? Would it then have been fair to have him ripped away from his wife and child because he didn't fill out some paperwork? And they're not FULL members of a community. They're technically fugitives, because if they're caught, they'll be deported. Some of them will be taken away from family members, and sent back to a country where, depending on how long they've been here, they have no life anymore. I think it's wrong to judge everyone based on the three or four cases of the people you mentioned above.
First off, the vast majority of illegals that are here are paid under the table by their employers -- i.e. their income tax is not withheld by the employer, so the employee and employer have no tax responsibility. FWIW, this is illegal for the employer to do. So, most illegals pay no income tax.

Secondly, the vast majority of illegals lack health insurance of practically any kind. Take an example, an illegal gets into a car accident. He/she goes to the hospital, is treated because the hospital has an ethical responsibility not to turn anyone away, and is treated & made all better.

That's just two ways that illegal immigration is hurting you. Your taxes are higher, because the government is supporting 11 million people that don't give money back to the government to help run the country. Your insurance will cost more because the hospitals have to jack up their prices for coverage because they have to cover the cost of patients who turn up & can't pay. I could go on & on... but you get the point. Taxpayers are picking up the tab for illegal immigrants, and IMNSHO it more than covers the "benefit" of cheaper goods.

The only part that is impossible is letting USCIS try to handle 11 million apps at the same time. The representatives do not seem to realize that this would be an impossible task for them. They can't even handle what they have now. It will be interesting to see what the plan is if these bills ever pass. I suspect that the government will clean out the pockets of these "undocumented workers" and they will die of old age before they ever get any sort of legal status in this country.
This is another thing that makes me go red. Illegals came here without documentation, and once they got here, most of them acquired fake documentation.

You have to realize that most of the illegals that work in this country have documents, they're just fake. You can't honestly think that they go to employers and say "Gee, can you hire me? I don't have a SSN, a Green Card, or anything like that, but I promise to work hard". What happens is they spend all of $15 to get a fake SSN card and a fake Green Card; that way if the employer ever asks to see them (which they probably don't, the bastards) they can plausibly deny knowledge on the grounds that the employee was naughty and showed fake paperwork.

The problem with this is it proves one thing -- illegals come here dishonestly, and most of them have no intention of following the law once they get here. So what happens? Congress, in it's infinite wisdom (hah) decides that anyone that's been here 2 years has to leave, and anyone that's been here 5 years gets to stay. What do you think happens now? People who have stayed in this country by having the smarts to get fake paperwork, only need to get a little more fake paperwork. Instead of having fake green cards for sale on street corners, they'll be buying fake rent invoices & everything to "prove" that they were really here 5 years ago.

Asking people who broke one law to honestly prove they're not breaking another is, to me, ridiculous.

Nothing worse than a immigrant who talks down about illegals......no matter what country you come from, if it was so good your spouse should have went their.

I am afraid I do not understand what you mean. The sentence is incomplete and it makes precious little sense.

Paul and I met on the Bazaar on the 14th January (he joined my progressive rock forum that day)

July 3rd he flew to England to meet me

We fell in love while he drove all over the place coz I cannot read maps (we were supposed to go to Ingleton - but touched Darlington 4 times, Pierce Bridge 6 times, Scotch Corner twice and Bernard Castle twice and we never did make it to Ingleton)

It has been so long and so much has happened in between...

Arrived in Houston on October 29th 2006

Married 17th November 2006

Lost my father 8th January 2007 (all dates are a blur after this)

i think it refers, on the one hand, to immigrants trumpeting up their origins (i.e. I'm white and western) so as to legitimise their right to be in the US and on the other, how this practice by logic suggests that Other migrants (i.e. non-white, non-western) have less of a right to be in the US -

as the reply futher suggests - if a country of origin is so wonderful, why doesn't the person and his/her spouse settle there - but anyways read the OP and the replies and you can easily figure out the motivations of this post.

well, we tried to get my husband to immigrate to Canada, they didn't want him, he's a "menace to society" because he has a juvenile record, so I got stuck here in the US :P

Everyone has a story, whether you came here legally or illegally, the point is, if they came here illegally, sure they have to look over their shoulder for ICE every 10 minutes, but that was a choice. And if they get deported, oh well, boohoo, they'll be back.

I totally understand wanting to make a better life for oneself and one's family. But if they don't want to be scared about being deported all the time (which doesn't seem to be an issue for most anyway, if there's 11 million of them here! :P ) then they should go about it the legal way. Plain and simple. If you break the law, you have to be prepared to suffer the consequences.

To the post above who said they're not illegal til they get caught. What kind of freakin logic is that? If I murder my husband and don't get caught, was it still illegal? If I'm driving 90 mph in a 35 mph zone and don't get caught, is it not illegal? sheesh!

If the US government is going to continue handing out visas to people who entered illegally, or overstayed visitor visas, then why the heck should anyone bother with paperwork? Its the government who needs to get up off their duff and start enforcing the laws that are already there, and quit just giving out amnesty. Hell if I had thought I wouldn't get an ulcer after 8 months of being illegal I'd have just overstayed myself. But if my husband and I want to build any kind of life for ourselves, live "the American Dream" then we do things the legal way.

I have no sympathy for anyone who entered illegally and gets deported. Same as I have no sympathy for someone who holds up a liquor store at gunpoint and gets thrown in jail. That's the whole point of borders and laws, no matter how much we dislike 'em.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!
