I have heard alot about ppl contacting their congressman/woman. How does this help to get things done?? Does this mean that if I am outside the 60 day window for my NOA2 that Jon can contact his congressman in California and have them do something about it? Thanks. I'm just full of questions it seems :P

I had a representative intervene after our case had left the NVC and we still hadn't heard about an interview 10 weeks later. His office was very helpful and managed to find out our interview date.

He may not have actually expedited anything, but was useful in getting information that the consulate would not provide us.

congressmen are too damn busy to have anything to do with commoners. try senators, they just sit on their butts all day long :)

Aren't you a Canadian? How would you know?

Anyways....The squeaky wheel gets the grease! You know the old saying.......Can't hurt.

I had no luck with my representative/senators, but many people have been helped. my thoughts to you would be not to wait for them to contact you, but to bug them until they actually do something for you.

I contacted my local congressmans office to try and get some answers on why my EAD application was taking so long. I actually ended up dealing with his Immigration Liason but did receive some emails from him personally. I am convinced that without the help of his office, I might still be waiting for my EAD to be processed.

I had to fill out a form giving them permission to access my file and also provided them with a very detailed chronological account of all the steps I had completed up until the point at which I was contacting them. The woman I dealt with was very knowledgable about the steps and procedures that made up the immigration process and was able to get me information that I wouldn't have been able to get through normal channels.

I used this website to get the contact details.

As for your case... the point at which you can start asking for information on your case is when the posted processing date at your service center is 30 days after the date of your NOA1. California is currently processing I-129F's received on or before Dec 31st so if your NOA1 is date Dec 1st or before you can start making some noise. The 60 -90 day processing window printed on your NOA1 is simply a guideline. if your petition has been there for 61 days it is still within the projected processing timeframe and therefore there is little that a congressman / woman will be able to find out for you.

There has been many posts here where contacting the elected offical actually helped the petition so if you get into a rut I recommend it.

I'm not sure if this will help but I contacted my congressmans office, a representitive applied for an emergency expedite of our k1 fiancee visa. The k1 visa was submitted to Nebraska on February 21, 2006, the approval arrived in a notice via email on April 03, 2006. The reason for the expedite is that I'm being deployed to Iraq soon and I would love to marry my fiancee prior to the deployment.

Hope that this helps.

Thanks,

Keith
