Was wondering if only a civil marriage is sufficient for AOS or it is required that we also have a religious wedding ceremony just to not raise any red flags for applying AOS and the entire Green card process.

Some folks attach the pictures of their wedding to the AOS application forms, is this required ?

Thanks.

civil ceremony is a legal marriage. my husband, and now legal resident, and i got married in a judge's chambers. no religious ceremony. as long as you have the appropriate legal marriage certificate signed by the judge or officiant, you are set. AOS requests an official copy of your marriage certificate. you do not have to include marriage photos as part of your application. you should bring these to your AOS interview though.

Yes, even Atheists are required to have a religeous ceremony in the US now. It's part of the Patriot Act.

our wedding was very civil, no one got too drunk and no fights broke out.

wedding photos not required to be included in AOS apllication. at interview, just one form of evidence that can be presented.

Of course a civil wedding is enough. It's a marriage, as long as it's legal they don't care if you got married by a priest, a rabbi or the local magistrate

As far as the pictures, you only include them if you came on a different visa than K1 (VWP, F1, H1-B etc)in that case they go with the I-130.

If you came on a K1, then keep them for the interview.

If you didn't take pictures, there are other ways to prove you are a legal couple (joint finances, photos of you 2 with family and friends, etc).

08.2006: Entered with a B-2 visa.

07.06.07: Civil Wedding

07.17.2008 AOS approved with interview. It took 367 Days!

11.08.08: Big family wedding

09.18.09-10.03.09: First trip to France with Hubby

I-751

04.19.10: Package sent to Vermont

04.21.10: Delivered in Vermont

04.22.10: NOA date

04.23.10: Check cashed

05.17.10: Received biometrics appointment letter

06.07.10: Biometrics Appointment

06.26.10: Touched

07.07.10: Card Production Ordered!

07.17.10: Card in the mail :) Done until citizenship

We also didn't have a religious wedding - got married at a friend's house.

We took TONS of pictures but you don't have to send them in with the AOS application. If we have an interview then we'll present them then.

Immigration knows that we only have 90 days to get married....

11/2004 - Met in Brazil

09/2006 - Apply for K1

03/2007 - K1 approved

04/2007 - Apply for AOS & EAD

07/2007 - EAD approved

01/2008 - Conditional Residency approved

11/2009 - Apply to remove conditions

02/2010 - Permanent Residency approved

11/2010 - Apply for Citizenship

03/2011 - Citizenship approved

07/2011 - Moved back to Brazil

You guys mean to say that we have to have the photos taken of the religious wedding ceremony for the AOS interview ! No Photos, No GC, this is absurd. The meaning of civil marriage is not justified.

Yes and of the honeymoon too. Somebody better darn well be naked in the pictures too. :jest:

Please take a few deep breaths.

No, nobody said that. Photos are evidence you can present if you have them and want to. They are not required. You are required to give evidence a legal marriage took place and that your relationship is bona fide and ongoing. You prove the marriage took place with a marriage certificate. You show evidence of bona fides in many ways. Most people have some pictures but it takes more than that. The Guides are pretty good about listing appropriate evidence. After a few breaths, how about reading the one for AOS?
