I think you need to call and wake them up!!! But WAIT!! This is Egypt . . . no one gets up at 5:30am!!! What are you thinking??? LOL!!!

They would if they lived in Taza. I think the prayer gong went off about 4 AM every morning I was there. All I know was that it usually went off when we were falling asleep after whispering and giggling all night.

Oh, yeah . . . I think I would hear the call to prayer about that time . . . you are right! This is about the time I was going to sleep while in Cairo and the bawab and assorted associates would start yelling right under the window of the flat!!! Egyptians never talk in normal tones it seems . . . it is always yelling and a loud fuss about everything.

Prayer "gong"?

I don't know what it was. It sounded like a gong to me. Taza is two cities really - Old Taza and New Taza. Abdel is from New Taza which is in a valley surrrounded by mountains. The mosque is in Old Taza, on the side of the mountain. Maybe that's why it sounded like a gong.

I just asked Abdel and he told me it is a man's voice over a loudspeaker.

I just asked Abdel and he told me it is a man's voice over a loudspeaker.

The loudspeaker has completely and totally decimated the adhan :ranting: In Cairo, it's become a contest, which masjid can have the loudest call to prayer. So they all have cheapo sound systems that they turn up to the maximum, and out comes this tiny, screechy sound. Add that to the explosion of little masaulas (prayer halls) that are in every 3rd building in Egypt and it's a concaughanee. It's enough to make my head explode.

I know there was talk about the government centralizing it, and having the same call broadcast simultaniously at all masjids, but I don't know if anything ever came of that.

I would (L) for it to go back to how it was before loudspeakers. Each masjid has someone make the call live, and the voices blend together and float through the air. *sigh*

TNT sucks!

But, I'm hoping they get it right for you guys

Yep....TNT sucks! Nothing on Saturday so he called them later in the day. Then they told him to call today. Now they say call back on Tuesday. (TNT is closed tomorrow for some reason) So there goes my high hopes for having him here for Easter with me! Guess I should've expected that though since all I have ever got from the embassy is a bunch of BS, why shouldn't TNT be the same.
