This sounds interesting...

They have 3 Subtitles:

*The Cost of Risk vs. Benefit - Our first cut at finding the prize amount for making the lottery worth the cost of playing. Odd, in that the same math can be used to determine whether the remote benefit of a given medical procedure is worth its cost!

*Revisiting the Lottery - Our improved tool for finding the magic jackpot number that would make the lottery worth playing! The only trick is to not play at all until it hits the big number....

*The Lottery Winner's Dilemma - Maybe you've won the lottery, or maybe you've just come into an unexpected windfall with different payout options. Either way, our tool can help you decide which is better: taking the money over time or as a lump sum today.

I wouldn't take the lump sum and I base that on the fact so many lottery winners have squandered their winnings away. At least with an annual payout, if God forbid you blow through your first annual payment, you'll be getting another 19 of them. There's just sooo many friends and relatives that come out of the woodwork when somebody wins. I know for mine and Jinky's family and friends alone, if we gave each one of them some money the money would go fast.

I would take the lump sum. Who knows if the lottery or even myself will be around in 20 years.

I realize that is conventional wisdom, but I'd be too afraid of the money being wiped out which has happened to so many of the lottery winners.

This will not be a problem for me - this is why I should win

It's called "self control".

Besides, it would be hard for anyone to blow through 87 million dollars without anything to show for it.

250 million jackpot divided by 2 for the lump sum minus 30% for taxes = 87 million.

Not just self control...your assets could be frozen, as an example if you were tied up with IRS. I suppose if you take one lump sum and you break into several different Swiss Bank accounts, then you're pretty safe. Just keep the account numbers from any family members.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).
