Medical exam

We got a letter in the mail requesting the I-693 again because it's either over 12 months old OR it was not included with the package they recieved as well as the supplemental form, however, it hasn't been 12 months so we called the embassy today and they said they sent everything in the file, including the medical exam and my husband has his chest xray at home but the envelope is opened because they looked at it when he arrived at the POE. So, I don't understand why they say they need it again. I tried to call USCIS as well, to verify that they really don't have the exam in the file but I was told that I should send whatever was requested (I think she was reading from a book). It's expensive to have this exam in the US and he's already paid for it once in Tunis!

He called the doctor in Tunis who did the exam and he said he would send us a photocopy of the exam that he kept for his records so I'm wondering if that will work instead of getting a new exam here?

Also, if we are able to get some kind of shot records from his doctor back home then the doctor here will accept that and not make him do the vaccinations again, right?

I made an infopass appt for next month just to ask them these same questions... will they have access to his file to see what we really need or are they just going to tell us the same thing the lady on the phone did?

You will need a civil surgeon from the list of approved civil surgeons in your area to transcribe the I693 ( he should be bale to use your records from the doctors overseas). If the first one won't do it go to the next one - some of them insist on doing a full medical and charging $300 or more for this, others will transcribe the I693 for $25 - Good Luck

Call around for civil surgeons, the prices can vary by a huge amount.

We just did the Medical.

The medical cost us $85.00.

We needed one additional test and that was $28.00

I called the CS office and got a list of the tests that they would normally order, went to our family Dr and asked if they would order the tests, so insurance would pay for them. The CS accepted the lab results and we did the whole thing for a total of $123.00, including the office co-pay.

I would call the local CS and see if they will accept recent lab results, regardless of who orders the test.

Some believe an RFE like that only means they need the vaccination supplement, which may be the case if you did not submit one. However, if you aren't sure exactly what the RFE is asking for, you can try an Infopass appointment. If you believe they should already have a valid medical exam report but lost it, there are options. As I recall, someone asked if they had multiple A numbers. They did, and CIS found the "missing" file with their medical exam. Others have obtained a copy of the original medical from the doctor (I believe it was sealed). Others have tried using their Senator or Representative to push CIS to find the missing medical. Others just have another exam (take whatever you have with you... vaccination worksheet and records, xray, etc).

If the civil surgeon is willing to accept the reports from your foreign doctor - then he would probably transcribe an I693 without a medical. So, your task is to talk to them and tell them what you have and what you are looking for them to do - e.g. I have my doctor's reports/vaccinations from ABC country and I need an I693 for immigration purposes - would you transcribe an I693 for me? What will it take? How much will you charge?

You can argue with them that "I don't need a medical exam' because - I have my foreign doctor's report etc. and see if you can find someone who is reasonable. Good Luck

We had our info pass appointment today which was completely useless. The lady at the window told us "If they'are asking for a medical exam then they need a medical exam".

I said yes ma'am but he already had it done and it hasn't been 12 months yet. She read the letter to me to remind me that they don't have it. I said yes ma'am but we called Tunisia and they said they sent it. Is there any way we can call them and find out if this is a mistake? She said "If you can get through to them then you can call but we can't call them"

Finally she said she could email them but they would probably just say if they asked for it that's what they need and I can always send a letter with the vaccination supplement saying that he's already the medical but they would just deny our case when they get that letter.

That was a totall waste of time. It's no wonder that it costs so much to do anything with immigration when they pay people like this $30,000 and up to stand at a window and do nothing all day.
