Ahh as the time grows closer to getting all of this done. The more I find that I am worring. I have to send in an amended tax return for 2005. Do you think that I can just put a copy in with my I-864 and that will suffice or should i wait the 8 weeks that the IRS says it takes to process it and then send that in? If I send the copy now to the NVC by the time that my hubby has his interview I can send the IRS transcript. However, as of last year, I only made 19-22k. I will make about 35k with my 2 jobs for this year.

Do they base their decision mainly on this year, or last year?? I am worried to death that they will ask for a co-sponsor and I have no one. Which would mean that we would have to start the process over in another year :crying:

Current income is more important than the past. Tax returns are required to show that 1) you file them as you're supposed to and 2) to demontrate your income history.

If you are +125% on all your years, you are covered on that issue, don't make problems for yourself that aren't there.

If you worked a partial year and have a lower US income as a result, you can include an explanation with your I-864.

A photocopy of your ammended return is fine; you can submit an orignal transcript at the interview if you like.

Hi Joy,

Just wanted to let you know that you are not alone in all the stress you faced with that bloody I-864. It has caused me more stress & worry within this last month than my ex-husband did in 10 years !!!

LOL

It has been stressful for me as well. I have similar issues as you have had with it.

I am an independant contractor, and have been with the same company now for 2 years on a part time level. Last year I was closing out a failing business and worked only 1/2 the year-this impacted my income on paper tremendously. My income for 2005 was only 14.5K, and I have a little boy as well to include on that form-which makes us a family of 3-not nearly enough to cover minimum.

Since the middle of last year, I have been contracting solely for the same company on a full time basis. Since coming on board full time, I have increased the growth of the business by about 60%, which will at the very least double my income for 2006, since I work on commission.

I asked the owner of the company to write a letter on my behalf stating that I am now a full time contractor, where in the past I only worked part time. He also wrote down my projected income for 2006. Ask your employer to do the same.

This entire process just sucks. I can relate and empathize. You are not alone, but you're going to be OK. Take a deep breath and realize you are at the tail end of this miserable wait.

All The Best,

Rose

Rose, thank you so much! I agree about the ex-husband part! Well... maybe

I am going to go ahead and copy the amended return and send off all off the I-864 this coming Monday. My employer wrote a letter showing that I have been with the county since march of last year. Hopefully they understand!! I thought maybe I should go ahead and contact the embassy, but I think I will only do that if something goes wrong.

You are SO right! We are at the end of this journey! It will be over soon and we will probably look back and laugh at the few grey hairs it gave us! I guess we just keep our chin up and move along!

Keep me posted on how you are doing!!

Thank you again!
