What I wanted to say was that, of course you can photocopy it but for your own records. But, to photocopy it then resend your replacement payment with it may be a problem. I may be wrong, but I just wanted to point that out since I saw that note very clear on the bill.

Hey Rina,

It's always good to have different points of view :)

Stabu - are you guys like calling NVC every day or have you decided it's not worth the hassle? If you are calling what are they saying?

As I haven't been doing the calling I don't relly know that well. But I do know that my wife has been calling NVC almost daily and asked to speak with an operator. Early on (like last week and the week before) they've basically asked us to wait longer and given a number of different time estimates such as 2 to 3 weeks, 10-15 days and 10-15 businessdays. This week they have been talking about sending us a new copy of our IV bill and also asked us to wait some more. My wife has also called her bank that issued the cashier's check two-three times a week and they have always replied that the check hasn't been cashed yet, so thus nothing is moving there either. They have had our check for 28 days now, so something should happen soon...

Correction, they didn't talk about sending us a new copy of our IV bill. I asked them to because I was worried it was lost. And I got a money order, not a cashier's check, not that it makes much of a difference :P

It seems like it's taking them just as long to get the damn IV fee bills out, too, I requested mine over a week ago...still nothing in the mail :( They must hate us or something. It gets really hard to not take it personally...

It's a real shame we still haven't figured out how to generate the IV bills ourselves yet. James says there is a transaction # in the barcode. Are we sure the operators can't give us the transaction number if we ask for it? Are we sure it is important that the transaction number be there, or that it be correct (i.e. as opposed to all 0's)? Folks like you might have the bravery to start trying to extract this kind of information from NVC.

Knowing how closed mouthed the operators tend to be, I doubt they would give it to us at all.

If it were a private company, definitely.

But in that case, we would be paying all of the fees online with credit cards or paypal or electronic bank transfers and there wouldn't be any of this old fashioned mailing things back and forth ###### :(

As an aside, for Canadian immigration payments (at least the ones we have made) the payments are all made online now, then you just print out the receipt and send it with your documents. So civilized!

It takes about 7-10 days for the IV bill to be processed and show up in their system. Keep calling them and ask them if they have already processed the IV Bill. If you ask them, they will surely let you know when the IV bill was processed. Once you know it has been processed, you can ask when approximately they generate and send the DS230.

Good luck!

Rina

Note: For whatever reasons, NVC don't like the term "generate". Therefore, just ask them when can you expect for them to send out your DS230.

No news for us either. So far the NVC hasn't done anything and they've had our payment for one month now (it's been already over one month sinec we sent it in). I suspect that our payments are filed in some box and that box is put aside to gather dust somewhere in St. Louis.

The bad thing is that we have no idea what to do. Are they going to resend us the IV bill (we requested one 10 days ago and we still haven't recieved it), are they going to generate us a new IV bill or what's going to happen. I hope we will hear some new information tomorrow...

A huge number of employment-based immigrant petitions suddenly became current on July 1st thanks to a screw up in the July Visa Bulletin. One can imagine that right around August 1st the IV payments for those petitions all came in at once.

The NVC fee payment regime is laughable; not only do they require a money order/cashier's check (so no checks bounce), but you also can't send the payment to NVC with the documents it relates to.

I think the St. Louis P.O. Box is actually a U.S. Treasury lockbox, and they get weekly lists from the U.S. Treasury with the case numbers they've collected payment for. Quite possibly, the work of opening the envelopes and posting the payment is done by a contractor too... I would bother NVC every day about it now... the more people complaining, the more likely they are to recognize that there must be a problem.

It also may be time to ask your representative's case worker to give them a call on your behalf.
