Yep...and I gotta say although I never got a Canadian patch, I didn't flaunt my nationality during that time....

Now in my village in England...I was a v proud American!

Chill! I was only saying one year after the most horrific terrorist attack EVER, Americans were very afraid. I watched it all unfold out my window, that fear is very real. And more huge than many will ever grasp, unless they lived thru it in NYC or DC.

Let's just say when I was in England, I was upset if I got called Canadian instead of American.:devil:

They LOVE to put the maple leaf on anything & everything - signs, logos, foods, etc.

the same thing could be said of the American flag... I see it everywhere....

seeing as I am one, I have plenty :P;)

I just can see how this thread is gonna end up, hence my reaction.

Canadians think alike on some things ;)

Oh yeah, this thread is definitely gonna end up as another bash thread.

Do you all really say "Take off eh"?

No they don't. My husband is Canadian and he never says it. He gets teased about it though, from Americans. Stereotyping?

their socialized healthcare gives you free pot and vicodin and such nice things.. labatt beer is given to children when they become 5 yrs old.. everybody works for the mounted guard.. and they like cheesy rock, as bryan adams..

You have to have a doctor's prescription to get the free pot - and it is grown and supplied by the Canadian government in a great big underground mine to a standardized strength. You can't just get it anywhere, anytime. :-) And I prefer Folk Music to Bryan Adams cheesy rock -Stan Rogers!

Stan Rogers was awesome. :D

hoping that they will be welcomed as Canadians - ever popular travellers overseas. :D

Perhaps you missed post #23?

I have never heard of a single Yank doing that - I think it's an urban myth! ;)

Nope, not an urban myth. I used to work in an MP's office in Canada (Member of Parliament). One of the nice things that we did is we handed out Canadian flag pins and sticky labels and such for Canadians who were travelling overseas. We REGULARLY (we lived an hour from the Windsor/Detroit border) had Americans stopping in while they were in the area wanting to pick up Canadian lapel pins, flags and other sort of paraphenalia. Their reason? Almost always that they were going overseas and knew that Canadians were better treated than Americans in many countries. Fact.

I guess my (American expat/traveller - many countries) experiences & my friends (American) experiences don't count, eh? Whatevs - you worked for an MP you must know all things Canadian!

...and the fact that you're such a world traveler makes you more experienced at such matter than say, a person who worked for Parliament in Canada? Um....yeah.

The best thing about Canada? The Red Green Show!!!

Now that's funny, I don't care who ya are! (quoted "larry the cable guy) Seriously, it's a hilarious show. Royal Air Farce is another good one. Lots of good ones come to think of it...can't get them here in the US though. *sigh*

So EdinthUK....just curious...very curious....WHY did you start this thread? Hmm...maybe someone should start a "How would you characterise people from the UK"? Wonder how long that would take to degenerate to a bash thread. :D

Just like American's love to put the Eagle on everything and call every business "freedom" or "liberty" something or other?

Or across the river in Jersey. Way too close to home. Canadians (or even Californians) will never get it.

Nah we didn't get it at all....

In Newfoundland (CANADA) where they took in thousands of passengers who were due to land US cities but were not allowed to fly into the US.. "We" didn't get it when we put those people up in our private homes, fed them and gave them all the comforts of home with NO financial rewards..

Nope our Firemen and Rescue workers didn't get it at all when they just up and left their families and jobs to go to NYC and work along side their US colleges because they wanted to "help" their brothers..

There were Canadians in those towers as well.. our country remembered those victims in a televised COUNTRY WIDE memorial of the event and prayed that day for your nation and it's healing..

Canadians are not afraid of socialism and all it's "many evils".. we don't think helping the poor and downtrodden is a social leech destined to bankrupt the country, we love to make fun of our politicians especially the Prime Minister, we generally love making fun of ourselves, but don't like it when others take away our identity and make us out to be "just like the Americans", we love our nation and our history but it's more like "hey our country rocks come and visit us" rather than "we are the best nation in the world", We are not afraid of big government and we enjoy a good helping heap of poutine (thanks to the French)!

Just some thoughts that came to my mind..
