I wonder if this one will still help our case...I don't care much about the guest worker program-I don't see it changing anything in my life-but the other aspects are what I was wondering about...

Doesn't look like it'll help you. It may have if he was still here. But your man is in Mexico. If anything, I see this dragging your case out as the Consulates in Mexico will be busy issuing guest worker visa.

On another note-I'm so tired of seeing every one spouting off at the mouth on they have "no problem with people who come here LEGALLY." Well, up until now, there wasn't a Visa available to the unskilled Mexican average guy to come work. Now there is. So if they do it LEGALLY now are you all still going to be complaining-I guess that whole "I don't have a problem" really wasn't the case.

I also just read on MSNBC that one of the behind the scenes deals being negotiated is that those already in the country legally would be able to apply for naturalization in four years instead of five.

Hmmm. And USC spouses here legally in two i/o three? Or is that trying to push my luck?

Although I pity those already in this situation. I TOTALLY oppose illegal immigration.

Illegal immigration takes jobs away from citizens (not talking just about US here, there are illegal immigrants in most countries); decreases salaries, as they´ll work for little and then a citizen ends up having to accept that as well; increases public charge as they´ll want the public services as education and health, etc.

I find it appalling to see brazilians who have decent jobs here cross the desert into US to clean toilets simply ´cus they´re paid in dollars. They should fight against the corruption and high taxes of our own country, be a real citizen, to make our country a better one where people don´t have to almost die in the desert to be illegal in somebody else´s country.

Sorry if it offended any brazilians who agree with this sort of immigration.

when I lived in NYC I had a cab driver once from Bangladesh who had a Masters in Computer Science.

He couldn't get a job when he first came over 13 years prior, so he drove cabs, and still does!!

not sure how this fits in but I found it interesting -

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

So this is a Mexicans-only program??? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense. There's tons here from Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador....

No, it's not Mexicans only. Makes this whole "go home briefly" even more ridiculous. I can see folks flying all over the world trusting the US gov't to let them come back with valid papers after a "short" while. This whole proposal is ridiculous...

I don't know...I know a lot of guys who would be thankful for the chance to go home for a little while...and it's not like they really want to be illegal. I know a lot of them really would like a Visa.

That's the problem. Tons. And it gives ALL immigrants a bad rap.

...and it's not like they really want to be illegal......

Then why the hell are they?

Well, they'd have to back that up somehow. And they'll have to check. Taxes may play a role in that determination as well. Whatever it is supposed to be, it's going to take time and resources. Meanwhile, if you don't have your fiance(e) or spouse here yet, Good Luck!

And everyone still looking to get something processed, better learn to be patient once again.

Well, hope that we can count on the House to slap the Senate into shape on this one...

Same thing I was thinking! If they are here ILLEGALY how does one prove how long they have been here? Who decides what is enough proof to prove how long someone has been here illegaly...Its not like there are any entry records.
