My wife is hoping to be able to travel back to her country to visit her parents over the Christmas holidays. I'm not sure if she will receive everything by then? What do you good people think? Dean

Theres a lot of us in the same boat. Who knows when they'll get to ours. Have you applied for the AP? I doubt that you will get your green card before xmas, in my opinion. My family wants me and my husband to go to back to Ireland for xmas, but we don't think we'll be able to either, as i'll need my green card.

Thanks for the reply. No we haven't received anything since I mailed off the AOS paper work. I did beat the fee increase. I'm just wondering if I should pay extra for the travel papers and send them off so my wife can travel back to her country for xmas? when i look at the processing time it shows close to 5 months. but it was the same for the K1visa it showed like 6 months and it was 3 months and she got her interview for the visa? So I'm wondering if it's the same here with the AOS. i'D hate to pay more money expecially since the fee increase for the travel documents and she recieves her approval to travel with the AOS paper work by november are the beginning of december? Thanks for the info. She is here on a K-1 Visa we got married in May and I sent the AOS form Chicago recieved them on July 31. My wifes Visa is still good for now but only until September 26th. She is wanting and hoping to be able to travel to her country for the Christmas holidays to see her family. I do not think she will have her paper work approved by this time since it seems they are backed up with everybody trying to beat the fee dead line? Do you think I should pay extra and fill out a travel form? Are do you think that will not be in time enough for her to travel in december? Thanks Dean

It took us about a month to get something and that was the biometrics for Claudeth's EAD. How did you pay? We paid by check so I saw when they cleared the bank.

I paid with a money order. and I just called the 1-800 phone # and they said it still hasn't been cashed. It's been 4 weeks now. Do you think I should pay the extra fee for the travel document to see if that might be processed faster in time for my wife to travel for the Christmas holidays in December? are do you think that the AOS package will be approved before then? What is your advice to me? Thanks Dean

Dean,

No one can tell for certain if you'll be approved/green-card-in-hand by Christmas - the odds are not favorable to 'wait and see', if going home for the holidays is something you guys really want to do.

Best odds would be to file for Advance Parole (AP) - pay the fee ($305 I believe now) and have a very good chance of being able to make plans and arrange travel.

Hope this helps

Thanks Austin,Texas.. I was thinking about doing the Advance Parole document paying the fee. I will do that. Do you think with the back log they have that the Advance Parole would give me that chance of getting the paper work done so we can travel to my wifes country for the Christmas holidays? Also when sending that advance parole forms with the fee. is that the only form i need to send ? Thanks Houston,Texas Dean

Wow, you were lucky to get the K-1 interview within 3 months! Took me like 9 months! My AOS interview was much faster but that's because our case got expedited.

Who knows, a miracle may happen and you may get your GC by Christmas. I never say never because miracles have occurred. Good luck!
