Change of Name

Hi everyone!

Quick question... I have sent my package this past Friday, August 24th to Chicago.

I first filled my I-130 with my maiden name. Now that I am married, I filled my adjustment of

status and the rest of the documents with my married name.

For those who have done the same... has this caused any complication, despite indicating my

maiden name on the forms as a previouse used name? Also, is there another form that is required

of me to fill to highlight this a matter of changing my last name...

Claudeth used her married name for AOS and the only problem was getting her social security card changed to her married name. SSA wouldn't change it until they had something official from USCIS so when she received her EAD we were able to change the name. It took about 6 weeks to get a new card.

I have done the same thing as you, I didn't know that I could use my married name on the AOS and EAD application. I heard that it costs 200dollars to change your name on your greencard, so I am angry at myself for doing so.

You can ask. Doesn't mean they'll change it, though.

When you go for your biometrics, take your marriage certificate to show the validity of the name change. Some have had problems with this, some have not. I was made to drive a 2 hour round trip to go and get mine.... even though the appointment letter did not specify to bring it. *sigh*

I did the same thing, filed my AOS and EAD with my maiden name. But I had my bio. app. last week and I talked to the officer and she told me that she wasn't able to change it and that I should wait till I have my interview and have them change it BEFORE the green card gets into production (btw, she made me sign the papers there with my married name). I don't think it makes any sense to send them a letter since they got enought mail in the last few weeks I mean, I can't do anything about it right now so I'm just gonna wait till my interview and try it there.
