Was it a Kirby (300 sounds about right for a new one), Filter Queen (that one actually can set you back $1,500+) or Rainbow (filters through water, similar price to the Queen)?

Filter Queen.... wow! I didn't think anyone actually knew what those were... My dad sold those things for as long as I can remember. Well, first he started with the Rainbow and then they switched over to Fitler Queen. I can remember being forbidden in our house from referring to it as a vaccum cleaner... it was a "clean air filtration system"

my wife got some ####### like that.. she bought a freakin kirby vacuum cleaner.. 1500 bucks!! yea.. but it kinda works.. still.. i know those vacuum thingies cost tops 300

My vacuum cost $2000 But then again, insurance has been known to pay for the kind I have because it helps with allergies. My cost: NADA! <-- my daddy is a distributor It's called a Rainbow btw

Ours was $500 IIRC and it's the Dyson Pet Hair Vacuum, and yes, it's the kind you can sometimes convince insurance companies to pay for. It's fantastic. We haven't had it that long, but they're more common in the UK and Gareth had been begging for one since he'd gotten here. They really are as good as the ads say.

My only complaint is that we went back to Target a month later and they were having a deal where you got a free mini Dyson car vacuum when you bought a regular Dyson vacuum. Since Dysons never go on sale (like iPods, Tempur-Pedic mattresses, and, er, I forget what else), that was as close to a deal as we were going to get on it. But we bought it a month too early.

You can't buy Rainbows in stores. In fact you can't buy Rainbows from anyone who is not a licensed dealer. I remember my dad helping them catch some ppl that were buying them used and selling them at a used vacuum shop and they got in big trouble

Hubby told me yesterday after he vacuumed upstairs "The Rainbow is horrible." I said "WHY?" He said, "because it shows me the amount of dirt in our house every time I vacuum! " heheh
