We were the first set of people to pay the new fee increase (07/30/07)in the Dallas DORA office becuase we figured it might help expedite our process but almost 30 days after; We are yet to receive even acknowledgement of payment, talkless the notice for Biometric appt. I was wondering if anyone has been in our situation lately with the DORA program! We are kinda worried. Althougjh SO has been able to obtain learner's permit and state ID with neither SSN nor EAD(which I think was a miracle); she is completely dead worried about not been able to start work. At this point I am not exactly sure what next we need to do!!!

Hi, we applied on Aug 14 in Oklahoma City. We have not received anything yet but the paper of the welcome to the programm says clearly that it will take from 60 to 75 days to send you a notification so please be patient and do not call. My husband had an appointment on July 19th for the DORA in OKC. The guy actually told us that they were doing away with DORA, so I wonder when that'll happen. We also applied for the EAD since some people hadn't had any luck getting their AOS done in 90 days. Anyway, about 3 weeks ago we got a letter for his biometrics appointment that is on Sept 6 and just received the NOAs for those on Saturday. He wasn't ever able to get his SSN, which after the first try and realized we didn't need it for the forms, we didn't try any longer. He was also going to try to get his permit to drive and they said he couldn't since when we went to the DORA program, they took the piece of paper out of his passport that he needed! It's been a long waiting process-- just like the rest of it. We're just hoping by the first of November he'll be able to work. Good luck everyone.

April 21 Dave arrives in America!

April 28 WE GET MARRIED!!!

May 9 Went to SS office and was denied

May 15 After gathering all paperwork, told we must file through DORA program

July 19 DORA appointment - they send paperwork to Chicago after this.

July 24 Paperwork is received by Chicago

August 9 Notice for Biometrics appointment

August 28 NOAs for AOS/EAD

Sept 6 Biometrics

Sept 26 Email saying card production ordered for EAD.. YES!!!

Oct 9 EAD card, Yay!!!!!

Dec 31 Finally got the Resident card! Yay!!!

Nicole 72082,

I am glad you have now the appointment for the biometrics for your husband.

Let me tell you that DORA is going to be available until september 21, according with USCIS (information printed in the Infopass appointment).

But sounds strange for me that he was denied the SSN, I arrived in a K1 visa, and i did all the paperwork that VJ recommends and it took me one week after applying to get the SSN. Did you do everything that here was said?

I didn't take any papers with me showing what should and shouldn't be allowed. Once I figured out that we didn't need the SSN to turn in the EAD and AOS, we weren't too worried about it. We have been able to add him to my insurance and bank account, no problem.

We applied for Dan's SSN, but haven't received it yet. I applied for mine with the name change on it same day - got it Thursday, but I know his has to go through extra processing so not worried about it yet. That sucks about the DL, but he's good on his UK license for a year anyway so I wouldn't stress too much about that one!

But it is UK! They drive on the left! My best guest is that he has to take classes here. Anyway, have you check the DMV web page for your area? Yesterday a post directed me to search about it, seems that here in OK, i need the EAD or my green card for getting the DL.

P.S: i never though i was going to end up writting everything with abbreviations.

Hehe - yeah at least I don't have to nudge Dan anymore to get him on the right side of the road! Seriously though, I checked TX DPS site and they recognize any international DL for a year. Dan actually got pulled over the last time he was here for 2 months prior to moving. His license wasn't an issue....his speed, however, was. It may vary from state to state, but in Texas, you don't HAVE to take the driving classes. You just have to pass the driving test with the DMV guy. Driving classes will lower you insurance premiums, though.

I am still wondering if anyone has heard anything lately from the Dallas DORA office. 52 days later we haven't still heard a word. Not even an acknowledgement of the fee receipt. Now I am regretting not sending it in through the Chicago lock box. Any similar experiences please share

Well I'm not sure if we messed up by not getting our NOA1 on the day of our interview. We don't know our USCIS case number yet, but if we don't hear something within a couple of weeks, I would probably call USCIS and see if I can find out our case number so I can check the status online. If you do already have your case number (and we did in fact mess up by not getting ours) then check the status online to see what it tells you. I'm planning on calling the bank today to see if there is any way that I can get them to tell me the case number that was imprinted on the cashier's check that we used for payment. I don't know if they'll be able to due to privacy issues, but it's worth a shot.
