Ok, and is this a daily thing? Or special occasions? I don't think that would be anything to be concerned about on a special weekend - a reunion, wedding, something of the sort. But on a daily basis? It'd be hard to hold down a job like that, I think.

I think it is more a person’s ability not to drink that defines whether or not they would be categorized as an alcoholic. If they can not go a day without drinking, if they won’t eat at a restaurant that doesn’t serve alcohol, if they have to stop at the store on the way home because they are out of alcohol, if they always have to finish their drink, if they take offense to anyone who comments on their drinking… There are many types of alcoholics ranging from functional to non-functional; however, alcoholism is a progressive disease which gets worse as one gets older. Also, alcoholism is generally hereditary and a look at some family history may be in order.

How often do they do this? Every day? Every week? There's nothing wrong with indulging yourself every once in awhile, but if you can't face the day without it then you've got a major problem... even one drink a day could make you an alcoholic if you HAVE to have it!

I guess it really boils down to whether it is causing difficulties in their every day life ... being a former bar manager I am used to seeing ppl drink much more than this on a daily basis and live perfectly 'normal' lives. There is a big difference between being a heavy drinker and an alcoholic.

I think it is in the person's best interest to get help before it will escalate.
