If your applying first for the EAD then start then, if you just submitting the full AOS (remembering that now EAD and AP are included in the fees) do it then.

Once you apply for AOS and EAD, use your married name already. Also if you apply for SSN. I first used my married name when I applied for SSN.

I already filed for AOS and EAD but with my maiden name because to be honest with you I wasn't sure how to change it  . Now I got my SS card with the new name on it but still need to change that on the AOS and EAD. I just filed for both forms in July and just had my bio. app.. I asked the officer there and she told me to wait till I have an interview and change it than but still made me sign all the papers with my new name. So do I really have to wait till the interview or can I just send them a letter with the SSN and a copy of the mariege certificate?!?!?

Where would you send it and how would it marry up with your file? I think it would be a waste of time trying to do this now.

You can't just send it in - it would never find your file. You can *ask* them to change it at the interview, but they don't have to comply - and then if the GC comes in your maiden name, you'll have to pay the 290 dollars for a new one.

I know I can't "just" send it in, I got an RFE 2 days ago and so I have to send them a letter anyways. I thought I'll give them the info on my name that way. Good idea?!?!?!?! What would you do, I don't want to pay 290$, who wants to!?!

You can always try it. Personally, I don't think it'll work out in your favor, but nothing ventured nothing gained.

You can try it and let us know if it worked :)

I have been under the impression that no matter what you do, the name on the GC will be the same as the name you wrote on your AOS application. And you would have to file an I-90 after you get your GC to change your name. I really hope my assumption is incorrect.

Anyone know what I need to change my name on my SSN? I have had my SSN since I was about 12 or so and it still has my maiden name on it. I ran into a minor issue when i got my driver's license since my state ID had my married name and SSN my maiden name.

Thanks!

Claudeth used her married name when we filed for AOS and her EAD.
