Hi Katherine,

I think you can apply to school while AOS pending, but you would have to pay higher rates usually as you would be considered international student. At least I think so,may be there are some more experienced people there who could tell us if that's not correct:)

This is what they told us here in Mississippi. You can go to school before AOS, but they will charge you fees like you are an international student. Which I am assuming is way more expensive. They said when Hachemi gets his green card, that he can pay fees and get benefits just as any citizen would. If you can afford the expense, I am sure you can enroll. Also check if there is a residency period that you have to live in your state. They may charge you out of state fees. I am not really sure how it works in your state. Good luck.

Thanks so much guys for the quick replies! Yes, it's alot more expensive being considered an international student.

So would you think I would have to wait to get the actual Greencard or do I just need to receive my social security number?

I don't think the SSN would do you any good as far as the fees go:)))By the way which school have you chosen?Because I have checked some schools and there was one in NJ where the fees were the same for domestic and international students. But the advantage of being a green card holder with some schools is that you might not need to take TOEFL - I have checked some of themmyself

You can apply for college. You are in the states now, right? As long as you are here, you can do it. I started way before I even filed for AOS. The problem about getting financial aid and all that good stuff usually occurs if you are in a foreign country.

I really want to start school very soon, and I just got married and I'm about to file for AOS. Can I apply to college just after filing for AOS? Or do I have to wait....? If so, when can I apply?

PLEASE HELP!

Hmm, I'd check with another school. I did not have to do this. Are you trying to do it online or do you want to physically go to school?

Thanks so much guys for the quick replies! Yes, it's alot more expensive being considered an international student.

What is a TOEFL?

That's probably true... And in most cases there's a lot of money to save... I'm thinking FIT in NYC. The TOEFL is not even an issue, I took the test a few months back. hehe:)

You can also take some ESL classes in the same school you're going before you get into degree program, if you do well in your ESL classes, they could let you in without having to take the TOEFL test. Yes, most of the colleges here (usually pretty good ones) require you to take TOEFL test if English isn't your first language (if you're a foreigner, basically)

You also need to get certain score on the test to be accepted (between 500-600)

And last time I checked, it was almost $100 to take a TOEFL test.
