Opening US Bank Accounts online

Allright. Since I've surpassed my daily allowance of cheesiness, I have a serious topic....

We want to open a US account as soon as possible - problem is, most banks will take only a "one person" account application online - and since I don't trust Bren with money at all ;) , I was wondering.....

1. Which banks do you recommend? (specially in the Seattle/WA area)

2. Can you open a join account online with them?

3. How in the F do you do it?

Gratzie molto people.

Darn their website for applications is down.

I did find this bankrate.com one, it's pretty cool as it compares banks and options.

mmmm, I managed to access it....

Bank of America. They are everywhere and pretty decent of a bank. Had them for 3 years without a problem.

Wells Fargo I use for business banking and they are GREAT for that.

Either are good banks IMO. I also have Washington Mutual, and I don't like them at all.

I applied to Navy Federal Credit Union online (not a bank I'd recommend), but they required a copy of my license and SSN card to be faxed to them as well as a minimum deposit send (like 10$ or something) before they would open the account. Just wanted to say that! :)

I wouldn't recommend BofA.. but that's from my experience.

Are there any banks in the US with no fees?

just curious B)

WAMU has "free checking" or "free chequeing" lol. But as I say in my personal experience I have been very unhappy with them.

I think it's more common in the US than in Canada actually..

my personal account (Navy Federal) as well as our business account are both no fees..

I've been looking into Citibank myself. I'm trying to avoid Bank of America as I've heard their fees and customer service have something to be desired.

In the meantime, since I'll need a SSN for opening a bank account I'm sure I'll be keeping my savings under the mattress.

Nini - Vancouver BC, Canada (she's the one who does the forum thing)

Bee - Devon PA, USA (he's the one who gave her the shiny ring)

Getting our sanity tested by bureaucracy since 2007.

Here we go again...

Removal of conditions @ VSC

9/4/2010 - sent!

9/14/2010 - NOA

LOTS! You'll be in VA so going with Wachovia is probably a good choice. They allowed me to open an account without an SSN or GC (depends on the branch though). Since you're going to be near Flames9, ask him which one he banks at because the manager there is supposed to be pretty good.
