Rida and I will be having a baby next March and want his parents to come in the summmer. Is there a specific procedure we need to follow? I know we need to invite them, but I am not sure what the entails. Any feedback would be great.

Mabrouk for the upcoming baby!

When inviting relatives to the US. You (the citizen) has to write a formal invitation to the embassy in their country stating that you are inviting them and take FULL financial, medical and legal responsiblity for them. Each person should have a seperate invitation. It should be notarized also. Some embassies require you to buy the ticket ahead of time so they see there is a return ticket... while others do not.

They file for a B-2 visa. I believe the fee is about $350 for the application and about $100 for the actual visa. Some countries are allowed 10 year open visas but others are limited to only one time visits. Since the people you are applying for are your SO's parents. They have domicile in their country (house, children, jobs) to show they will return. So I would not worry ... It is much much easier then the visa to bring SOs over. I would not even bother filing for sisters or brothers (visitors visa) as they usually donnot have enough reason to stay in the country... and get denied. PM me for further info.

Mabrouk ... I pray all the blessings for you an easy birth and a healthy baby. Amin

Also... best to email the embassy if you need to purchase the ticket ahead of time, as it various. And with the new fee changes... refer to your SO's US embassy www.

My mother in law is coming for our baby too, in fact she will be here in about 6 weeks (she meaning MIL, not baby YET)

She had no problems at all getting the visitor visa, its just a matter of proving ties to the home country and intent to return, so she had to provide bank statements and things like that. We did send an invitation letter, although nothing as formal as mentioned above, but per Moroccan Consulate site it was not actually required. For the Moroccan visa just remember to apply online and then you schedule the appointment online too. MUCH easier than trying to get a fiance or a husband here, thats for sure

CONGRATULATIONS on your baby!

theres a MENA baby boom going on these days!

I would love for his sisters to come if we have a baby but they have no bank records to show. I don't they'd qualify since his sisters don't have much money.

You could always open a bank account and supplement it. I mean if you honestly have the intention for them to go back I see nothing wrong with it. Youssef's mom doesn't even have a bank account (not as common in the ME as here) so we will be opening one for her, and then she also has her land/house title and we plan to show that Youssef's 5 other sisters remain there. It's so difficult because on one hand you have to prove you can take care of them while they are here (ie showing family ties etc.) but balance that with proving they will go back... argh.

I sent a letter of support for his parents when they applied for the visa. They didn't ask them anything and issued it right away. Also recently I did the same thing for his Aunt, she also got the visa right away, no questions asked.

VJ Hours - I am available M-F from 10am - 5pm PST. I will occasionaly put in some OT for a fairly good poo slinging thread or a donut.
