I believe we are just waiting for my Mum to get a letter from the Embassy in London to tell her when her interview is. Does anyone know how long it takes from when they her visa has been approved (Aug 21st) to when they set the appointment? We are hoping to get her over here by Christmas, but not sure if that is a reasonable time frame.

Mum is 71 and getting very anxious to get here, so any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks guys for all your assistance in the past. This site has saved many of us from insanity!

Timelines vary but it would be very odd if it was not before Christmas.

I am going to ask it, my Mum is in her 70's, what are you doing about Health Insurance.

There is an Inward Immigrant Insurance that will cover her up to a mere $50,000 per illness. It is about $1200 per year. We are also going to pay our local "Doc in a box", CareNow a $14 per month insurance that reduces her visits to $60 per visit and includes most tests. Our local Senior Center has a nurse on site and takes blood pressure, gives free flu shots etc. and then we are going to pray like mad!!

Its the big stuff that worries me, praying is about the only realistic solution.

Where is your Mum right now? Have you applied for her to come over or is she over already?

I have done loads of internet searching for info on Medical Insurance and it has been so hard to find very much available that is affordable for a pensioner. Once Mum has been here for 5 years she can go onto Medicare. She will have to buy Part A, which I believe is free is you have more than 40 quarters. The best option was the Inbound Immigrant Insurance, but at her age the offerings are not too wonderful. At least she will be covered for any small operations she might need.

Can I ask how long it has taken since you first filed the I-130 for your mum... to get to the point you are at now...

I am going to be filing for both my parents next year once I am done with my citizenship...

Kez

I started on the 2nd of February this year. Things were a little slow at first but they have speeded up a lot. We got our citizenship in November and Mum had until the End of January to make her final decision of coming or not.

Hope that helps.

In the UK, but has quite a few issues, I noticed the same pattern with my Gran, fine for a long while, then a set back, stable again, but never able to fully recover, just gets a bit worse with every step down.
