My husband has been unable to get a DL EVEN with a green card!!! Arrggh they are just so incompetent there @ DMV it's beyond comprehension :help: We have tried 4 different ones and nada. I hope the last one he went to does something, they said they will send his card in a week (but we heard that before)

You think that is bad? The Maryland MVA gave us an incredibly difficult time when we tried to get my wife's Washington license changed to a Maryland one together with her new married name. Even though Social Security had changed the name and we had pieces of mail in her new name etc, they wouldnt accept our marriage certificate. Also they wouldnt accept she was a US citizen even though she had a passport syaing they need to see a birth certificate. We explain that she wasnt born in the United States so the passport is her only evidence of US citizenship but somehow that is not good enough for them. After a few tries and lots of arguing it finally worked. WOW.......You got to wonder if part of the requirement to work in DMV offices in states like Maryland and Missouri is that you have to be in the bottom 5% of the IQ range of the population.

My husband has been unable to get a DL EVEN with a green card!!! Arrggh they are just so incompetent there @ DMV it's beyond comprehension :help: We have tried 4 different ones and nada. In Arkansas my wife took the witten test, then she was given a permit to drive with an adult for 1 month before she could take the driving test. After the driving test we went to get her license and they said they have to verify her I-94 before they could give her a license. We go back Wednesday to see if it is ok and then hopefully she will get her license.

Unfortunately all the states seem they have to be the ones to enforce immigration laws. I'm afraid everything will get worse before it gets any better. In NW Arkansas the police are working with ICE and randomly pulling people over to see if they have the correct papers or not. Fortunately my wife looks more Spanish so hopefully they will never harrass her. I know a lot of people will say good, it is about time someone is trying to enforce the laws. Is it worth sacrificing some of our freedoms we have enjoyed?

I remember after 911 flying became a major pain, before it was fast and easy but right after it took forever to get throught security and then your were searched again before boarding. Mothers were made to pour out formula and breast milk before they could board. Once I was at one airport and a veteran with an artificial leg and arm was made to remove them and run them through the x-ray, he had to hop and crawl through security. Who knows what the solution will be, maybe someday because of all the concerns with immigration everyone will be implanted with a microchip to ensure you are who you say you are and it will be cross referenced to fingerprints or retinal scans. We all will have to give up some freedoms if what we want more is complete immigration control. I hoped my wife could enjoy the freedoms I have enjoyed being an American but the world is much different now. We now have to teach our children all strangers are bad.

I seriously hope this isn't a problem. I camed the DL office yesterday and they said that they were pretty sure that having his EAD wasn't I repeat WASN'T enough to get his DL. I am hoping they are mistaken and that when we go with all our documents that this will be enough. I was looking on websites all over to get validation just to perhaps print it off and bring it with me, but no such luck!!

Oh well...we will work it out hopefully!

How is the new job coming???

(woohoo..first paycheck comes in for chris this week yay!)

Sorry I haven't been on in a while... It's so stupid that they don't let you get the DL, what's the point of being allowed to work if you can't drive, it doesn't really make sense in the country like the US where a car is pretty much mandatory.

I hope you can figure out something. Try calling the Asheville DL and see if they tell you something different (sometimes different offices do things differently).

Oh well at least he can drive with you to work for now.

New job is exciting. it's my training week right now. I know that it's going to be hard to be on my feet all day and repeat the same things over and over, but the staff is great, very friendly and welcoming, so that's really exciting. I like getting to meet new people. So we'll see once I start the real thing. I'll keep you updated.

Glad to hear that you got transfered. I guess you're unlikely to get an interview.

I'm glad I have plenty of work to keep my mind busy. I don't really think about the Green Card. I look forward to it of course. I wish we would get an interview date sometimes soon, but I know Charlotte is a busy office, so I don't see the point in stressing about it. As long as I can work and bring money in so we can make projects... I don't have to live the country any time soon so I can afford to be patient.

ahh we'll get the DL thing figured out! Seems we aren't the only ones to have issues with it.

Well I am going to keep up with you on this wine tasting thing. My in laws are coming out right after Christmas and they want to see the Biltmore House all decorated. So perhaps we will come for a tasting too. To me that sounds fun. Maybe just Maybe it will be a day you are working.

Hope it is raing today for you. We are getting a little but we really really need it.

Yes now that we have the EAD and assuming that we will get the DL we can be patient with the GC.

Hey did you guys find a car yet??

I wonder that myself too... One of the ridiculous excuses that they use so they won't give him a DL is because his I-94 is expired. They don't care about the GC, EAD, nothing. They want a new valid I-94. Please gimme a brrrrrrrrreak!!

Once he asked for the Supervisor. The Supervisor said the same I-94 tale and that he is now a K-3. He tried to explain that he entered as K-1 and not K-3 and we got married, etc. The lady (supervisor) said that that was enough explaining, that she won't change her mind and that if he didn't leave, she will call the cops and INS (????) on him. I told him, you should have let her call immigration!!! Then this dilemma might have been been finally solved... We have to find another DMV and yet to try again.... :help:

What I find interesting is that in Washington state they didnt even ask me for my I-94. All they needed to see was my social security card to see that I had one. But then Washington is a lot more progressive than most other estates: they might actually know how to read unlike the DMV you are describing.
