Hi,

My Brother in Law applied for his AOS in July. He is most concerned with his EAD. It's been 92 days and he hasn't heard anything so they called USCIS misinformation and they told him it all looks fine but right now they are only working on EADs from April?

Although they tried to get across that they were talking about the EAD and not the I-130, she assured him again that they are only working on April right now.

Does this sound right to any of you here? The days in the table you are keeping - is that 'days to receiving the EAD document'?

Thanks for your help

Looks like it is in normal processing times. He is going to be told to wait 30 days from the 90 day expiry before inquiring again anyway, so wait till day 120.

I've been waiting since July 5. It happens.

Thanks for that info brad, after I posted here I decided I shouldn't really have posted in the timeline thread so started a new topic here

I seriously hope this isn't a problem. I camed the DL office yesterday and they said that they were pretty sure that having his EAD wasn't I repeat WASN'T enough to get his DL. I am hoping they are mistaken and that when we go with all our documents that this will be enough. I was looking on websites all over to get validation just to perhaps print it off and bring it with me, but no such luck!!

Oh well...we will work it out hopefully!

How is the new job coming???

(woohoo..first paycheck comes in for chris this week yay!)

thanks so much everyone!

Tell me this...and I know each state is different, but can Chris get his Drivers License now?

We tried to get it after we got the Social Security but the k-1 was almost expired so it would have been pointless.

I honestly have looked for the information and haven't been able to locate a true answer. Any advice here??

Well I can tell you what happened to me 2 years ago. I was with a J1 visa and came in to get my DL. I had already received my SS card.

I studied the driving rules booklet, then we came in (can't remember if we had an appointment or not), I took the written test. Great, easy and painless.

Then I was told by the NC DMV that they have no agreement with my country so I had to take the driving test too. Bummer! But it was painless too.

I received my DL, good until my 30th birthday (so about 8 years).

Now at the time there wasn't the rule that your DL is only good for as long as your visa. So in your husband's case it might only be good for the lenght of his EAS until he receives the GC. I didn't have that problem when I renewed it but you should expect that.

I hope this help and you can always PM me if you have more questions.

Here @ Missouri is a REAL pain to get a DL. Even tho the DMV website says that with his EAD is enough, they won't give my husband a DL! :bonk::ranting: Now that he has his GC they are still giving him trouble. Oh well, hope we can convince them sometime soon. He has even called Jefferson City (where they approve) and sent fax of his GC + EAD... And still nada....

But the good news is that he got a job! Yay!!!
