who will pay for the birth control?

would it be considered a necessity or a want??:P

Ha!

Surely a want. In fact, poor people should just not be allowed to have sex. Better yet, we can sterilize them. While we're at it, we can sterilize people with low IQs, people who are obese.....

Hey! And don't forget the mentally ill, the alcoholics (recovering or not), GLBTQs, ugly people, short people, too tall people ..... ;)

I don't want to call you a liar.....BUT do you know what WIC is? I have a hard time believing someone asked if they could pay for nails with WIC. WIC recipients get a check, on that check it is printed 1 Gallon of Milk, eggs, and cheese or something of the sort. Only the person with the folder can use the check and only in places where the Government has approved it. I kept my mouth shut but since you KEEP repeating it.. IF you make something up to make people look bad, please make it plausible..Like she used food stamps, or offered you her child or something.

barter system ...

and your solution is to ban the programme rather than try to educate?

Makes perfect sense...

Educating parents to feed their kids? #######. Great a "new program" How to feed your kids, Totally absurd. Very typical response from someoneone who is driven only by emotion.

Driven by emotion!?

What are you driven by Marc? Take a look back at your posts in this thread.... You'll find far more 'emotion' there than in the post you highlighted above.

I should have been clearer I guess. Decisions should not be made based on emotions.

the reason CarolsMarc started this thread was because he is trying to do away with the lunch program altogether... i am not saying he wants them to starve though...

Ditto Marylin, that was the start up to the thread.- trying to cut the program from his/her community.

As per my opinions, they're mine. They're staying with me so not to panic, they are not contagious. I am indeed all about people's rights, so sue me. And when it comes to children, my emotions have no limits.

No kidding.

I volunteered in schools in some capacity or another during most of my sons' public school career. The enormity of poverty on a child doesn't 'go away' as the child gets older. I knew who the kids were with TRUE challenges at home. I watched them grow up - saw how they navigated the school system. I saw how some overcame their circumstances, and saw those who were unable to.

Have you ever seen a teenage girl with five brothers and sisters and a handicapped mother and a deadbeat father WALK from one side of town to the other to get to school on a frigid Saturday in November to get on the bus for a band festival? Getting there just in the nick of time, her hair with icicles clinging to it, because her stepfather wouldn't let her have the car that morning to get there? Have you seen her as the field commander later that day, in front of that band, perfectly roll-stepping and using her mace to a first-place finish? Did you see her go daily from school to work (so she could pay the insurance on the family vehicle) and still keep her 4.0 grade average? Did you see her graduate with honors? Did you see her band director desperately working to help her obtain financial aid for college, so she could continue her education and help her break the cycle of poverty she had seen in her family? Did you see her taken in by another family during those college years, to keep her physically away from the cycle?

I saw her. In the hot lunch line.

She graduates this year from our state university with a degree in music education. I saw what her work, her drive, and the help of others did to lift her from poverty. I saw her gaunt frame turn into that of a woman once she moved past the one hot meal a day she got at school during her school years - the one hot meal that somehow kept her going until she could get past those irresponsible parents.

Take that away from a child? Hell no. Not in a million years.

who will pay for the birth control?

Hmmm. Maybe a little self control might take care of this, again the mentality of someone needs to take care of me when I ** up. Lessons are usually learned through experience. A negative experience due to your actions is a great teacher. Such as playing with fire will get you burned. From a very small age children learn this way so why do we need to baby an adult?

Charles' sign, "If you can't feed 'em, don't breed 'em" comes to mind. Lisa must not be wearing her bifocals.

That still doesn't prove he wants kids to starve. Does it?

Let's ask him: Charles, are you advocating children starve?

i'm advocating birth control for those who can't feed their kids. an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

and nice try steven but i've not said in this thread that kids should starve.......;)

So you want people's right to bear children contingent on their income? Charles, are you sure you're not a Fascist?

who will pay for the birth control?

i'd rather see my tax dollars go for that to prevent more kids from being raised in poverty.

who will pay for the birth control?

would it be considered a necessity or a want??:P

in this case i'd classify it as a need.

you can call it that if you want. i'd like to call it common sense - if you can't feed the kids, why not be on birth control?

I should have been clearer I guess. Decisions should not be made based on emotions.

What decisions are you referring to now? It's quite clear to me that despite the imperfections in the system, providing free school meals to children who need it is a great way to spend a few tax dollars. Definitely an investment in the future. Any decision to suspend a programme of this type would be harmful to those who are least able to deal with further difficulties in their lives. That there are a few people who abuse this and other welfare systems is no justification for stopping the programme.

Trying to control the lives of the less well off is not something that a free society does or will condone. From the lofty towers of contentment it's quite easy to say 'so and so should do this/that or another thing' and that 'everyone who is poor deserves to be poor because they have done x/y or z to become so.' and more to the point, 'I don't want my tax dollars to help these scummy poor people who don't deserve my help'. However, you live in a society that doesn't allow you to make those decisions about other people's lives and one where your tax dollars will go wherever the local/federal government sees fit to spend them, based on the electoral choices of everybody not just you.

Unhappily for me, some of my tax dollars fund an armed forces engaged in a war that I didn't believe in from the get go, but I haven't started a campaign to withdraw funding from the armed forces...yet.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .
