It seems the current attitude of the poor towards others more successful is "###### them. Take what you can and give back nothing".

Really? Your evidence for this sweeping condemnation of the poor is?

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

No the parents should suffer for their decisions and not everyone else. If your poor and not prepared to do the extra work; don't have kids..

Everyone goes on and on about their 'rights' and their 'right to choose' but conveniently, when they ###### up, someone else has to deal with it and pay for it. Welcome to the 21century where we are supposed to be intelligent and advanced.

Sorry to disappoint, but "their" rights are also "your" rights and mine -. if you and I have the choice of having or not children, so does everyone else.

Quick question: What about being pro-eugenics is intelligent or advanced?

How it could be humiliating? Would you like to explain every one of your purchases over the past month to someone who is trying to find fault with everything you did? Would you like to explain that no, you weren't being irresponsible, it was just that your mom gave you some money to get your nails done for your birthday? Or that the new coat was a present from a boyfriend? Oh, no, this suit is secondhand from a tag sale. Yes, I bought my kids new shoes so they'd last. I can't imagine much more stressful or embarrassing or, and this is the real point, not actually likely to reduce poverty or spending on poverty.

Listen to the stories of people who are legitimately in need and on public assistance. It's embarrassing. They can't believe they got there. And they're usually pretty glad that the EBT card looks like a normal credit card, and they still have to deal with the teenage cashier rolling their eyes because they bought a half-gallon of ice cream instead of spending their food stamps on something the teenage cashier deems appropriate.

Do you notice the shades of similarity here with some of the arguments brought up in support of a national ID card for foreign visitors. Auditing the poor - or requiring them to keep and present receipts to explain their expenditure to someone in a welfare office is not only embarrassing but it represents a huge burden of bureaucracy to achieve. While no doubt some abuse goes on in these public assistance programs noone ever claimed that the systems themselves are or should be infallible, but given the choice - I'd rather the money go where it needs to go, rather than spending huge amounts of money to enlarge and complicate the existing bureaucracy. If there's anything we need less of...

Who feeds these poor kids during the summer? Its a bullshite program. If the parents have the ability to feed the kids during summer break and all other holidays then they obviously can feed them year round. Answer it!

Some of these kids barely eat during the summer...plain and simple. I've been teaching for 13 years and I've seen a lot. I've seen kids wolf down their food cause they're so darn hungry. I've seen those same kids quite hungry when they come to school the next day. Ever see a child that's hungry Marc? Look at his or her eyes, that tells it all. WHY are you so opposed to this?????

I think they call this child neglect, if I'm not mistaken.

yes, because all people on assistance are getting there nails and hair done all the time :blink:

That's not what's been said. But this applies to more than just a fringe element within the supported population. I invite you to head to subsidized housing complexes and count the vehicles that the residents should not be driving. I invite you to observe just how many people pay with food stamps that would appear to be quite capable to pay for food themselves. And so on and so forth. The abuse is everywhere. It's not just a one-off type deal. Not everyone but way too many for my comfort.

Yep...I saw it myself all the time when the customers wanted to pay for their nails with WIC.

You shoulda seen some of the cars & the systems....

I don't want to call you a liar.....BUT do you know what WIC is? I have a hard time believing someone asked if they could pay for nails with WIC. WIC recipients get a check, on that check it is printed 1 Gallon of Milk, eggs, and cheese or something of the sort. Only the person with the folder can use the check and only in places where the Government has approved it. I kept my mouth shut but since you KEEP repeating it.. IF you make something up to make people look bad, please make it plausible..Like she used food stamps, or offered you her child or something.

"5. What food benefits do WIC participants receive?

In most WIC State agencies, WIC participants receive checks or food instruments to purchase specific foods each month which are designed to supplement their diets. WIC food is high in one or more of the following nutrients: protein, calcium, iron, and vitamins A and C. These are the nutrients frequently lacking in the diets of the program's low-income target population. Different food packages are provided for different categories of participants. A few WIC State agencies distribute WIC foods through warehouses or deliver WIC foods to participants.

WIC foods include iron-fortified infant formula and infant cereal, iron-fortified adult cereal, vitamin C-rich fruit and/or vegetable juice, eggs, milk, cheese, peanut butter, dried beans or peas, tuna fish and carrots. Special infant formulas and certain medical foods may be provided when prescribed by a physician or health professional for a specified medical condition."

FYI there are community programs that give out free lunches paid for by the government for young people in the summertime. These free lunches are distributed at schools, community centers, etc.

Sure, school lunches are not that healthy (remember that ketchup was considered a vegetable?) but they are better than bags of chips, candy and big sugary sodas bought from the neighborhood convenience store.

Malnutrition does not help students learn. Getting a good education is the best way to ensure productive employment and citizenship in the future. IMO school lunches are an excellent investment by the government.

Hmmmm, spending their money on sodas and chips? This is a model of exactly what is wrong.

Actually there was a study not so long ago that suggested there are no relative differences in nutrition between the rich and poor (i.e. the poor are not any more malnourished than the rich). Would this be more assumption on your part?

and your solution is to ban the programme rather than try to educate?

Makes perfect sense...

Educating parents to feed their kids? #######. Great a "new program" How to feed your kids, Totally absurd. Very typical response from someoneone who is driven only by emotion.

Driven by emotion!?

What are you driven by Marc? Take a look back at your posts in this thread.... You'll find far more 'emotion' there than in the post you highlighted above.

Charles' sign, "If you can't feed 'em, don't breed 'em" comes to mind. Lisa must not be wearing her bifocals.

That still doesn't prove he wants kids to starve. Does it?

Let's ask him: Charles, are you advocating children starve?

i'm advocating birth control for those who can't feed their kids. an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

and nice try steven but i've not said in this thread that kids should starve.......;)
