Alway check out First Coast News and this is on this morning, didn't know wether to laugh or cry. :o

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- xxxxxxx was out walking her dog, talking to her sister on her cell phone. Then she noticed the elderly driver backing out of a nearby driveway.

As the car's driver turned her wheel counter-clockwise at the end of the driveway, xxxxx realized she wasn't slowing down. She screamed to her sister as the car continued backwards in a circle, running her down on a neighbor's front lawn.

The car struck a tree, then the driver put it in drive and drove off.

Despite her injuries, xxxxxxxxmanaged to call 911. Here is a partial transcript of that call, obtained exclusively by First Coast News.

(911 Operator) Jacksonville 911 how may I help you?

(Woman) Somebody just ran over me! (unintelligible)

(911 Operator) They just what, ma'am?

(Woman) They just ran over me in a car --and left!

(911 Operator) You --all right?.. You

(Woman) I know who did it!

(911 Operator) Ma'am... listen. Listen to me. Do you need an ambulance?

(Woman) Yes!

(911 Operator) OK --They ran over your body?

(Woman) Yes!

(911 Operator) You live in a house? Apartment? or trailer?

(Woman) I'm in a house. Laying in the front yard!

(911 Operator) All right, she did this on purpose?

(Woman) No! No! I was just standing in the front yard watching my dog and she was backing out and she just ran over me!

(911 Operator) What color was the car?

(Woman) White

(911 Operator) A white car...

(Woman) Old...

(911 Operator) An old white vehicle?

(Woman) No SHE's old...

(911 Operator) An old white lady?

(Woman) Yes! And I think my arm's broke!

(SOT 911 tape @1107 )

(Woman) But I feel like I'm going to pass out. Please!

(911 Operator) Ma'am the ambulance is on the way.

(Woman) I need to call my husband

(911 Operator) Ma'am? What's your last name?

xxxxxx was rushed to Shands Jacksonville where her injuries were determined to be non-life threatening.

Police eventually caught up with the 75-year-old driver, identified as xxxxxxx.

xxxxx reportedly told investigators she blacked out while backing out of the driveway, and never realized she'd hit xxxxxx or the tree.

xxxx was issued two criminal citations for careless driving and for leaving the scene of an accident with injuries -- a third class felony.

Old people driving over people makes me laugh.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

I disagree. Stripping elderly people of their driving privledges is demeaning and just plain mean. How will they get anywhere? Some elderly people rely on their cars!! I say make them pass another driving test...The eldery are already so discriminated against - and so often have their dignity taken away in so many ways - why take it away in this situation too?

That's good enough! Yes they get in accidents - but so do young people.

I really think there should be stricter laws for elderly people driving. That's just scary. :o

I agree. Let me propose one.

Elderly people shall not drive. Period.

Agree

they are dangerous

Totally agree there Karo, as one who is getting"older" shall we say  It is not always the older who cause the accidents, boy racers are the world's worst !!

I personally would be more than happy once I reach a certain age to take the test every year if necessary, and surely this could be arranged for a minimul cost.

I know the reflex's are slower as one gets older but to my mind, and this is only from a UK drivers point of view (probably get loads of hasssle here  ) driving in the USA is preferable to driving over here. Our roads are just too narrow, too many roundabouts and and too packed with parked cars. It's lethal ;)

I think we should take a drivers test YEARLY, if you cant pass the eye test, the written AND the actual driving part, you dont get a reissued liscence.here in florida you can mail your liscence in and you get a new one thats insane! Its simple. And some of the old AND young people im sure wont be driving anymore.

I see older 80 year old women and men driving all the time, and when they are driving 20 mph BELOW the speed limit and SQUINTING to see, they shouldnt be driving.
