JFK can discontinue that practice at any time, it is not required to stamp K-1 as work authorized, SSA will issue the SSN to K-1s with or without the stamp, SSA considers K-1 to be "Work authorized" for the 90 days of the I-94 card.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

My POE was JFK - two months ago - they give you an EAD stamp. I flew from Duesseldorf directly to New York with LTU. I paid for the one-way ticket 250 Euro. If JFK is not your final destination make sure to have enough time for the immigration office. I spent 2,5 hour there.

Best wishes

Karin, did it seem to you that getting the temp stamp was pretty routine? I'm seriously considering routing us through JFK (if the day ever comes) but just want to be sure it's worth it.

I guess its a good thing to have but in my opinion only worth if you find somebody that will hire you for 3 months. And if you pay ways more just flying into JFK and then finding a job that pays crappy just aint worth it.

After the 3 months you have to quit working anyway and that really sucks.

It would have to cost about the same for me to consider it - otherwise it wouldn't be worth it. But there is no reason to tell an employer "BTW, I can only work for 3 months". The hope, of course, is that the actual EAD card would arrive by then. And three months of work is better than three months of no work IMO.

my honey has to come through jfk anyways because i live in nyc. so it's lucky for us and hopefully they'll give it to him no problem. he will likely go through a temp agency for that time period and then get a permenant placement when he has work authorization.

Hi Iva,

you just sit there and wait until they call your name. It was pretty busy this day, I know also people who went through JFK immigration a lot faster.

I wish you a nice flight on tuesday and a fast immigration process - maybe you are lucky and it is not so busy.

Best wishes

Karin

The cheapest travel agency I know of is American Travel. My family and I have been using them for 4 years. When my brother was stationed in New jersey, he paid $400 to fly to Germany and that was over Christmas! My husband paid $800 for me and my daughter to fly here back in March so that was $400 a piece.

Here is their website:

http://www.flyusave.com

Toll free number: 1-866-714-4478

Do NOT worry about where it says they offer cheap airfares to and from Germany to/from the US. They also do other destinations/other countries.

Has anyone arrived lately in JFK? Are they still giving the work authorization stamps at this time. Also can anyone recommend a cheap airline that flys through New York JFK.

I see you will also be coming from Germany. OK, here are the current prices to JFK ...

If you fly between these dates: June 01 - June 30 OR Sep. 01 - Oct. 31 - $436 plus $100 tax fee

If you were to fly between Nov. 01 - Dec.14 - it would cost $338 plus $100 tax fee

OK, I hope this helps!

Is this true? I hadn't heard about this. I am not nearly at that point, but I was considering going through JFK just for the EAD stamp. But if it's not even necessary, that totally changes things.

Yes it's necessary to either have the stamp or an EAD. While K1s can work, they don't have a document to show an employer to comply with the I-9 rules if they don't have a stamp or EAD.

When you get close to your arrival date, you can double check, but it seems JFK has been pretty consistently giving stamps for a long time.

My ? is ? can she work with this card ?? im gussing NO but reading several posts about comming through jfk it seems like to me several are automaticly authorized.
