In attempting to call the US Consulate in Montreal Quebec today with a question, we were surprised to find out that they are no longer offering live operator support. This was available on 514.398.9695 extension 4. The recorded message says that this is due to staffing levels at the consulate. They now require that all enquiries be made by fax or email to:

montreal-iv-dv@state.gov

Maybe they can raise the tax rate to 99% and offer those incredibly expensive services again.

It's a common government tactic to always eliminate the most useful or least used services, so either people scream in anger or few notice. That stinks though.

You have to call Montreal between the hours of 2 and 4 pm in order to actually talk to someone about your case.

Doesn't matter what time anymore, TonyandDebbie are right, there's a discussion about it in the Montreal timeline in the Canadian forum.

EDIT- Kevin and lee, you might want to email the consulate. Interviews are coming up faster now!!Apparently they are answering their emails faster and people are finding out about interviews that way. Goodluck
