British School Qualifications

It just occured to me that when I finally get my Green Card and Uncle Sam lets me start looking for work, employers here are going to have a hard time understanding the difference between GCSE and A-levels and they probably won't have a clue what a 2.1 is on my degree certificate. Everything it seems is done by Grade Point Average here. So is there an easy way to equate my British grades into an American understanding? I thought I saw something on the internet sometime ago where a US based company could convert British grades and would give you a notorized certificate to present to employers as evidence of qualifications earned.

www.wes.org will do it (I used them when I applied to law school but now the law schools seem to prefer http://www.aacrao.org/ )

should work out okay either way. Depending on how high your 2:1 was (ie were you more near the 1st scale or more near the 2.2 scale) your GPA should work out decently.

Another satisfied customer of the WES here - essentially my GCSE's are considered the equivalent of a US High School Diploma, and my Bachelor's Degree 2:2 (which, percentage wise, was close-ish to a 2:1) became a GPA of 3.19 on a 4 point scale, and the equivalent of a US 4-year degree, which I was very happy with!

It didn't find it to be an issue and I have Scottish Standard grades and Highers, and a HND. Since you are British they will probably assume that you are smart anyway. Seems to be a positive stereotype :)

Yes I once took a social psychology class that talked discussed accents and the british accent rated as a high status accent! If you do get your degree evaluated by wes or another organization such as ece, then will definitely make your employment search and hiring process so much easier and smoother not mention if should also decide in the future to return to school for more professional development! :star:
