Is box will be fine?

Correct me if I m wrong... But 32 kilos is usually for for Business Class, right? Economy is usually 23 kilos.

Sample sites...

Carry-On

Check Baggage

For trans-pacific flights, you are allowed two pieces of checked in luggage (or 2 balikbayan boxes) the weight of each box of which should not exceed 70 pounds or 32 kilos. You are also allowed one small carry-on.

Sorry for delayed response. I was out-of-town for a few days.

I flew Northwest in June with my son and I was allowed 4 balikbayan boxes each weighing 70 pounds or thereabouts. The last 14 years I've been flying with Northwest, they allowed me 70 pounds each. All my relatives report the same.

Northwest and Philippine Airlines allow 70 pounds (or 32 kilos) for trans-pacific flights. For Continental, you might want to call their Manila office. If you are flying with them Manila-Guam-LAX, you may be entitled to 70 pounds. It is always best to check with the airline you will be flying with.

International Travel - between North America and Africa / Asia / Europe / India / Middle East)

- Coach Class: Each ticketed passenger is allowed two (2) pieces of checked luggage.

- Each piece: 50 pounds (23 kg) with linear dimensions not to exceed 62 inches (158 cm).

- Exceptions for trans-Pacific travel wholly between U.S./Canada and the Philippines, China and Hong Kong, checked pieces may weigh up to 70 pounds (32 kg) each.

http://www.philippineairlines.com/

Each passenger is allowed to check-in baggages with the following size and weight requirements.

For Journeys to/from the USA and Canada (Piece System)

First Class

Maximum of two (2) pieces with a total dimension of 124 inches (316cms) and no piece exceeding 62 inches (158 cms). Each piece should not exceed 32 kilograms (70 lbs)

Mabuhay (Business) Class

Maximum of two (2) pieces with a total dimension of 124 inches (316cms) and no piece exceeding 62 inches (158 cms). Each piece should not exceed 32 kilograms (70 lbs)

Fiesta (Economy) Class

Maximum of two (2) pieces with a total dimension 107 inches (273 cms) and no piece exceeding 62 inches (158 cms). Each piece should not exceed 32 kilograms (70 lbs)

are these boxes really safe? will it not be opened while it is being checked-in? how was it closed?

They will open it if there is something inside the box that may look suspicious in the x-ray machine. It is best to bring your own masking tape and rope while you are in Manila. More often than not, the airport people will not help you tape your box again.

If you are in the States na, the Customs people will tape the box for you after they open it.

Wasn't easy but stuffed Jennybear into balikbayan box. Anak is 4' 4".

Security inspectors at airport blew there minds and so did all the other passengers in line!

Anak didn't like her "baby" being crushed but is happy now!

Yeah some of the visa process is fun!
